I have a pre-op appt this thursday and I was wondering what do they actually do? Will they be doing blood work? I have no clue, this is my first time getting surgery.:)

First I seen my DR. in his office and he just talked to me about the surgery asked if i had any more questions. Then he sent me to the hospital where I has having my surgery, they took my medical history, took my blood, ran an EKG, let me talk to the anesthesiologist, and went over the restrictions no food or drinks after midnight, can only brush your teeth, no mints or gum, etc.

I have to have an upper GI. Has anyone else had to do that?

Pre-op is 12/19

Surgery is 01/05

I had to have an upper GI, and they found a big old ulcer hiding there. Also had to have an EKG which I failed, so had to have a Cardiac catheterization, and spent 2 days in the hospital because they found a kidney problem too. By the time I get cleared for surgery, they will know every little secret my body has ever had. Which I guess is a good thing.:blushing: Pickle6

At the pre-op appointment they weighed me and took my vitals. Then I spoke to the doctor. The doctor gave me lab slips for an upper GI and a Hpy-lori test. That was it. Blood work happened weeks later.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
