Congratulations, and good luck! Stay cool, girl. It will be over and you'll be home in no time. My only suggestion is get prepared for those gas pains...they are not like any gas pains I've ever experienced in the land of spicy food and pizza...more of an internal pain. Have a heating pad and Gas-X or like substance. Tough it out for a couple of days, then each day will be much, much, better. Be strong! Give us an update when you're ready!

You'll be just fine. The only time I didn't feel good was for about 2 hours following surgery. The shoulder gas pains are wierd. They last for about 3 weeks. Nothing major though. I never took anything for the gas. My worst day was 2 days after surgery. I felt nauseous and tired. The day after I was out shopping for about 5 hours. Just enjoy the pain killers and walk to get that gas out. Walk, walk, walk. Otherwise, you will feel a lot of gas pain. I'll keep you in my prayers. If it's any consulation, I felt exactly the same way the day before. Then the day after, I was thinking why was freaking so much-- it was a breeze.

Hello - I'm back and banded. My stomach is feeling pretty okay. But my shoulder gas pains are sometimes UNBEARABLE. Feels like they dropped me on my shoulder. I'm already sick of the sweet stuff... freezer pops, Jello, gatorade... Don't want the bouillon/broth anymore either. I've tried really watered down Tomato Soup - that was okay. My husband made tacos for the kids last night and I sucked the taste out a couple pieces of hamburger. PATHETIC, I know. Other than all that, I'm here, a little fragile still, but can't wait to get started on my NEW life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
