My big day is thursday....YAY!

I have a three day prep to do nightly beginning tomorrow...

2 T Milk Of Magnesia-yuk

Fleet enema-double yuk

The Milk of Mag I can do,but an enema-ew. I am doing just liquids the next couple of days, no more Medi-fast shakes. What can they possibly expect to get out of me!

Anyone else have to do this?

Thanks

My surgery is Thursday too! Congratulations. I do not have to do any of that, well except the antibacterial shower on the morning of surgery. My doc just has me on the same pre-op diet until the day before and then it is only Water after 5pm and nothing after midnight. Good luck.

Steph:)

YEAHHHH....NO:confused_smile: Now I know every doctor is different but thats definitly one of the weirdest preops I've heard of...I personally did not have to do anything but take antibiotics the day before BUT....I have to give myself heprin shots for 2 weeks after surgery, which I havn't heard of from other people....I realy think these doctors can get wacky sometimes ......as for the enema..does he think your your gonna poop on his table or something???? Cause I'm pretty sure nobody here has pooped during surgery:lol:

Like I said though every doctors different. But good luck it will be over before you know it.

I didn't have to do the laxative/enema thing or the antibacterial shower...no antibiotics the day before either.

Just no eating or drinking after midnight, no makeup-lotion-deoderant or jewlery and I had to tie my hair up.

I had to do the Milk of Magnesia the morning before, but I was allowed to eat until 6 pm the night before. I did not have to do the enema or antibacterial shower - just a regular shower.

Yuko. No I did not have to give myself an enemia, but I did have to take a the milk of magnesia, which was bad. After I drank this, I was told to stay on liquids only. No drinking after midnight. Surgery was first thing in the morning.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
