Couple of Pre-Op Concerns

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery Monday @ 7:30am and I have a couple of concerns, just for my peace of mind:

(1) I have folliculitis (inflamed hair follicals) in a few places below the belt and a rash, neither of which are contageous. They look more painful than they actually are, whic is more of the concern. Would the doctor cancel just because my discoid lupus (skin-related issues) is acting up? It usually does in the winter. :)

(2) In my pre-op diet, I had to have under 1300 calories, under 100 carbs, and between 90-120 grams of Protein through clear and full liquids only. But I was also allowed a 3-4oz. piece of lean meat once each week, veggie salads, and steamed veggies. Mom had the surgery back in March and ate all kinds of Soups, instead of the cream of chicken Soup on the list. They didn't cancel her surgery. So I've been eating the same types of soup as well.

I dont know... Day 2 of the Pre-Op diet I had a nightmare that my surgery got cancelled because I failed some test with a 60. Probably just school anxiety manifesting in lap-band anxiety, but I'm still concerned.

Anyone know if the rash would cause my doctor to cancel? And how do they know if you ate non-approved soup? Uggghhhh.

You need to follow YOUR doc's directions for you. Odds are you'll be good, but take it from someone who did what worked for others instead of what she was told (and didn't get the surgery the 1st time because of it)....do what YOU are told to do, at least for the pre- and post-op periods. If in doubt, call and ask your doctor.

I'm sure, especially if your mom is successful, it's hard not to listen to her about this. She IS your mom! :)

But you are a different woman, different body, different blood work, different everything. You need to do what your doc tells you. Clarify with him if your mom raises concerns, but trust him. If you don't, don't use him for the surgery!

Sorry I can't help you with the rash...does your surgeon know you have the disease? (He should've gotten a thorough health history) If so, did he seem concerned, or give you any guidance? If he knows about it and didn't mention it, odds are you'll be fine!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
