Dr. John Bagnato - I'm new and nervous

Recommended Posts

Hi, Bandits,

I am scheduled to do pre-op on 1/5/09 and my surgery with Dr. Bagnato is set for 1/19/08. MLK Day and I'm hoping to be free at last from the bondage of morbid obesity!

I'm full of questions and nervous about what is to come. I live in Athens, so I won't be able to make many of the support group meetings, unfortunately.

Question 1 - why can't you eat bread or Pasta when you're banded? Anybody know?

Thanks,

Sheri

Hey Sheri! I am from Conyers Ga which is not far from you at all! What hospital are you having your surgery at? I had mine at Newton Medical Center in Covington Ga on 11/19/08. I have not been able to go to my meetings at all, not because of distance but just works and kids and just being tired at the end of the day:frown::):frown: I do my support on this sight and I love it!!

Hi Sheri and welcome!!

Many people can't eat bread and Pasta because it gets stuck and it's just too hard to bother with. I think it varies from person to person. I've been banded for over a year now and I've pretty much always been ABLE to eat bread and Pasta, but most of the time I choose not to because I try to watch my carbs.

Believe me, you'll find out which foods you can and cannot tolerate, lol. Scrambled eggs are hard for me to eat most of the time.

Again, welcome and good luck to you!!

Congratulations! What a great way to start the New Year!! I could eat bread after the first few fills, but once I got to the "Sweet Spot" (7.5cc) I found out that bread just won't go thru my stoma. I can eat croutons on a salad, but not many. Any hot, fluffy bread just isn't worth my time anymore, it just sits there til it 'comes back up' (very uncomfortable). The only time that's a problem is in restaurants when they bring that great, hot, fresh, wonderful smelling bread to the table and I loose my ability to reason.

I am having my surgery with Dr. Bagnato in Albany at Palmyra, Kendallsmeme.

I know it's crazy, but I think I'm going to miss carbonated beverages more than anything else. I am a diet soda junkie. I'm trying to limit myself now so it won't be such a shock.

Thanks for the info about Pasta and bread.< /p>

I hear you on the carbonated drinks! I am a 1 1/2 weeks post op and have been eyeing a coke from time to time. For me so far, there are plenty of other options that are very tasty :tongue2:. So this really has not been an issue yet...have thought about it though!!!! I just keep reminding myself that this is all a life style change!
