littlefroggy 0 Posted December 14, 2008 I am FINALLY restricted properly and am able to keep to the 800 calories a day recommended by my doctor. However, my Protein has now dropped from 60-70 grams per day to 40-50. What's typical when you're well restricted? Today- 3 blackberries, bite of greek yogurt lunch - turkey salad, 2 small slices of cheese, w/ pita crisps Dinner- ham and macaroni and cheese (more ham than noodles) Snacks- mini veggie corn dog (at someone's house) 1/2 apple That was 45 grams today. I don't like the way I feel on a low carb diet so I want to avoid that.. but will I have to increase the protein to stay healthy?
di1138 8 Posted December 14, 2008 I had a problem with Protein too. Since I am tight in the morning I have a Protein Shake. I love to mix vanilla with skim milk and frozen strawberries in a blender. That gives me 25 grams first thing in the morning. I use the Bariatric Advantage because it has Vitamins fats and carbs. Oh yea I add a couple sweet'n'lows to it too. kgloverii 0 Posted December 19, 2008 I don't count my Protein and go up and down on a daily basis. I don't do the Protein Shakes because I don't believe in getting my calories from drinks. I get my protein from milk, dairy, Beans, and meats that are in my meals. But I don't get the 'required' amount cause then all I'd be eating is protein. I like having a varied diet with fruits and veggies.
Jodi_620 37 Posted December 19, 2008 I went through the problem of not being able to get in the recommended Protein too. I used shakes and shots. My doctor does not want me to use these as a meal but said I could use them as supplements while still getting in 3 meals a day. I would have a shake mid-morning and if needed a shot before exercising in the evening. I only needed to do this for a while, eventually I was able to eat enough solid Protein. Worldwide shakes make it easy with 35G in one shake. I got mine at the local Vitamin Shop store or you can get them online: Pure Protein Shake Frost Choco by Worldwide Sport - VitaminShoppe.com Or the shots are small 3oz and pretty easy to get down and you can get them at the Vitamin Shoppe too: New whey Liq Protein 42 fruit by IDS Sports - VitaminShoppe.com
