Hello all:

I came here for some info. I have gone thru the steps for this lapband and if all goes well I can be banded late Januray 08 - mid feb 09.

I have struggled with my weight for all of my 38 yrs. I see this as a way to gain some sort of management.

I am exited but also have lots of questions and am very very nervouse to be sedated. Does anyone have any words of encouragement on this whole procedure?

My surgeon will be Dr. Benevides with True Results. Does anyone have any comments on this doctor and his bedside manner?

Is the True Results office near where you live so you can go back easily to get fills and follow-up care?

That's the first "thing"...follow up is as important as the surgery!

I don't know about that specific doctor but can tell you my surgery was an easy breeze. I went out easy, came to easy, didn't even have a sore throat from being intubated, went home the same day and needed only 2 doses of pain meds. The surgery is the easy part! :)

I'll tell you how it went for me. They rolled me into preop,

the nurse stopped by for some encouraging words, the anesthesiologist stopped by for some encouraging words and the next thing I literally knew was the nurse in recovery saying "Wake up!Your surgery is over!".:frown: I went home the same day. The next night to my daughter's 8th grade night for basketball-( I made it but it was a little rough).

The hardest part about all of it is the week long pre surgery diet.:)

Follow your doctor's eating and drinking rules. It's really not that difficult to do. It is like second nature to me now.

I did not have a hunger pang for at least a month after surgery. Then it is just incredible the small amount of food you eat and yet stay not hungry for hours.

I like it because I eat whatever I want(following the rules)

just not near as much.

It is the best thing I have ever done for myself!

I had my surgery Oct. 31 2007, I have lost 75 pounds and am 5-10 pounds from my goal.

Good luck to you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
