Tattoo - I probably should have waited until after!

Recommended Posts

I got to thinking today - the USMC Eagle/Globe/Anchor tattoo that is my avatar here on the forum I probably should have waited to get until after I lost a bit of weight!

12 years after having left the Marines I FINALLY got my tattoo, but now I am concerned that it's going to get distorted all to hell once I start losing weight.

It's on my upper left arm, which is pretty much solid. Any thoughts on whether it will get thrashed by the weight-loss, or do you think it will be fine?

I'm sure there's got to be some men on here that have tattoos - how has losing the weight impacted your ink?

Thanks!

I have numerous tattoos. 3 on my left upper arm, 1 on my left fore arm, 1 on my right shoulder, 1 on my right fore arm, and one on my right thigh. The ones on my left shoulder make 1 big tattoo theme (God, Family, Country). None of them have become distorted.

I think if you lift weights that will help keep your arm toned. I just don't think you'll have a problem.

And, as a sidenote, THANK YOU for you service. I was unable to enlist due to reconstructive surgery on my right wrist when I was 16 and lost flexation (not sure that is a word actually) and was denied at MEPS. I respect all the men and women of our Armed Services for the sacrifice.

Anyone else?

It was my pleasure to serve. At this point in my life I really miss it, and would pay them to let me back in! All Marines are my brothers, and I wish that I could be there abroad fighting side by side with them to accomplish the mission!

Please - no flaming me with political jargon - that's not where I am going with this - just proud to claim the title of United States Marine !

OOORAH!

I have half sleeves... solid, colorful and very detailed. I have not had any issues with my ink distorting. If you notice some distorition in your arms, you can always add a little muscle... but aside from that... all is good.

Big concern is shapes becoming misshapen... Example - the globe of my tattoo warping or becoming pear shaped or something oddball like that!

even funnier.... I am thinking about getting a nautical star over my port. Not really for the doc to know where to inject my fills... but as a reminder to myself that I did a great thing and well... just seems like a fun thing to do!

Actually I like the idea!

I see it like this.... if my tattoo becomes mishapen, someone comments on my scar (who cares... scars a cool!) or whatever else... my response is....

oh yeah, that is becuase I lost all this weight. I would lop off an arm to lose all this weight... who cares if I have a scar or a little mishapen ink.

but hell... that's just me! I will take a pic of my "port tat" when I get it.

I have 4 tattoos, soon to be 3 (I have actually had 5, but one is/will covering up two old ones).

The latest one I started in November and is down my shoulder blades and across my back. I was was worried about how the weight loss would affect it, as I have lost 20lbs or so since I started the new one, and I want to lose another 60-70.

Surprisingly, it seems to be OK. It will change positioning a little bit, but only in its proximity to the "edges" of my body.

I have been speaking to my tattoo artist and my plastic surgeon about placement and how it be affected in the long run, and so far we're all confident that it won't be an issue.

Anybody that would "flame" a marine on LapbandTalk for political reasons is a big ol' douche....and will be treated as such.

That's funny. If your doc was having trouble hitting the port you could get a bull's eye, LOL.

You know, just for humor, get one of those kids Water applied tatoos of a bullseye for your next fill appointment. The look on your doc's face would be a Kodak moment for sure... :blushing:

ok... going in january to get my port tattooed... cannot decidde between a scope sight, a nautical star (already have one, a Bull's Eye or a X (pirate style)... you know, like X marks the spot.

I like the idea of the temp tattoo just to freak my doc out the first time, but he would not be surprised, like I said, I have half sleeves and during surgery, tattos were the talk at the operating table.

My only concern is the tattoo gun hitting the port... last thing I want to do is screw up my port by getting a tat over it. Sounds like a worthwhile conversation with the doc before doing it... just to be sure.

Worst case.... I go around it.

I have 3 tattoos right now, planning a big one now that I have been at goal so long.

I was told the upper part of your arm is one of the more stable areas because it is muscle as well as fat. Not a huge concern even for me and I am a woman.

Evo--no to throw a monkey into it, but what if you have to have a port replacement?? I only ask because I had one this year, they ended up moving it too....something to think about!

I have ALOT of tats. Half sleeves and all of my upper chest. I also have been messing with the idea of getting a tat over my port area. i was thinking about getting my ex wifes picture over my port. It would be kinda like a ink voodo doll. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
