Struggling. Need help/advice please.

Recommended Posts

So, I had my surgery in February and lost a lot of weight right off the bat. about 25lbs. I have had regular fills (here in my hometown as my surgeon Dr. A set that up for me) and was at 6cc (which was too tight and NOTHING was going down, but everything was coming up!). So I had 0.4cc taken out (putting me at 5.6cc) and food started going down again. This was at the end of October. I now feel tighter again, though nothing has changed. I am now again struggling getting Protein and veggies down and have to have about 2 glasses of hot tea before eating.

I can't even attempt to eat solid foods before 2pm (usually have a boost drink in the morning) and certainly not without drinking something hot. I usually have homemade Soup for lunch (very healthy and hearty) and dinner is protein and veggies.

I usually start to eat dinner, things get stuck, come up and then I can get food down.

If I were to measure my food, i would have for dinner about a half a chicken breast (bone in variety) and veggies. So probably more than 1/2 to 1 cup. But I struggle to get it down.

I have an appt to take a little more fill out as I know it is not good to have every solid meal come back up on attempt. I was going to take it to 5.25cc..... (I was too loose at 5cc).

But, no matter what I do, I cannot get the scale to budge. I am down lots of inches and people can really see a change, but I don't understand why the scale has not budged in 4.5 months?huh.gif

I am down 35lbs in 10 months. So equates to 3.5lbs per month... not the 2lbs per week average....... What's wrong?huh.gif?I am getting very depressed about this and am starting to struggle with decisions. I don't know what to do.

I am exercising. I walk, swin and am an active equestrian (ride horses - very physical). I ride my elliptical as well. I try to get in a minimum of 30mins exercise every day.

Are there some experienced bandsters out there who can offer some advice/help/suggestions to this struggling girl??:)

3.5 pounds a month is nearly a pound a week and there is no shame in that. You may just be a slow loser. As long as you are going down, at any rate, you should feel good about that.

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on what you should eat and how tight you should be. I say, keep on keeping on!

I'll be cheering for you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
