Big Wight Loss!! Good News or Bad News?

Recommended Posts

:confused:I went for my 1 week post op appointment on Sunday 12/7. I had lost 17 lbs. Everyone in the office was stunned. Dr. Nazarian who did the surgery said this is not typical but kind of yelled at me because I wasn't consistently drinking the protien shakes. The whole week after surgery I wasn't one bit hungry. All This is probably because I'm old :)LOL. This week I'm up and have a bit of an appetitie but amy only drinking protien and chicken noodle Soup. I just wondered if anyone else ever lost this much. From the posts I read before I thought maybe 8-10 lbs. Today I'm down another 2 lbs.

At my one week I was down 23 pounds! The typical amount is 1-2 pounds a week...that's like the minimum they want us to be losing, but everyone is different. :wink2: Way to go and good luck! Keep up the good work!!!

I had a some big losses the first two weeks too. It will slow down and I wouldn't worry about it. Just be certain you're ingesting adequate nutrition. Don't short change yourself on nutrition just to try to wring out a few more pounds on the scale. This will invite big problems and bring your weight loss to a screaching halt in short order.

I thought you lose quicker if you are heavier and younger to start out but I was a 37 BMI and all the clothes in my closet are getting BIGGER! ! I have to pinch myself to believe this is real. At age 49 I tried everything from working out 2 hrs a day at the gym to eating only salads to lose weight and nothing worked. This is a really good dream come true.....I feel free and lighter than i have in many years!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wink2: I hope nothing happens to change this. I would just enjoy it as I sthink as soon as our bodies catch on to whats happend it's gonna go into survival fat storage mode and actauly then we have to eat more and exercise. best to you:tt1:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
