OT: Anyone into freshwater aquariums? (lots of images!)

This is a bit off-topic, but since I am spending a bit of time on this forum I'd see if anyone else here is into one of my hobbies - freshwater aquariums!

I have quite a few tanks at home, plus one 10 gallon at the office.

In the livingroom:

1x 55 gallon (Larger central/south American cichlids)

2x 20 gallon (Smaller central/south American cichlids)

1x 46 gallon bowfront (Community)

(These three will hopefully soon be replaced by one large 120 gallon tank.)

In our bedroom:

1x 38 gallon (LOTS of loaches and a few rainbow fish)

In the computer room:

1x 1 gallon Betta tank.

I figured I'd share a few photos I've taken of some of them! Hope nobody minds?

Thank you :-) Taking photos of the fish has proven to be one of the best stress relievers after a long day at the office. Sure, you have to take 20-30 photos just to get one that is acceptable (photos of fish isn't easy!), but when you're done all the stresses are gone!

Doesn't work as fast as a trip to the pistol range, but, it costs a lot less to do :-)

Ahhhh, so it's a meditation on patience.....I see. I myself prefer to shoot, but like you said.....ammo ain't exactly cheap these days. How old is the tattoo in your avatar pic? It looks to either be pretty fresh, or else very well cared for.

Actually that photo was taken literally right after returning home from the parlor and then having taken a shower. It's about 3 1/2 weeks old now. Better late than never though - it's been 12 years or so since I was medically discharged!

Thanks for sharing the pics, I love aquariums!! I am too lazy to be a fish owner though.. Anytime I've attempted them, I let them grow over with god knows what and kill the fish (bad bad fish owner).

I love the pictures. I don't have the room for the size tank I would want (I probably wouldn't take care of it the right way either) so I just go to the pet store and browse every now and then.

Nice pics whipple! I had tanks for many many years. It is so relaxing to just sit in a room lit only by the tank and just watch and listen.

I primarily had a community tank, although for awhile I had an oscar (got tired of buying goldfish to feed it). I really enjoyed watching the clown loaches.

After many years with freshwater I got into saltwater reefkeeping... It was tough to learn but I raised some really nice livestock. I went from a 75 gallon up to a 300 gallon. It just got to be more than I could keep up with - both in terms of work and coin... morso the coin.... :scared2:

I had over 10k into that hobby when I finally said ENOUGH! :)

I do miss it, especially when I happen across a beautiful reef somewhere. But I wouldn't have the time for it anymore anyhow. Keep up the good work on yours and share more pics!

Brad

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
