Hi Erin and Micheala,

Welcome to LBT and Congratulations

I'm in Morgan Hill, grew up in Redwood City. I've lived in the Bay Area 43 years.

FYI Dr. McKeen has a great support group that meets every 3rd thursday at Good Sam, San Jose 7pm, all are welcome.

That's this Thursday....when Erin will be getting her band! right? :Bunny

Hi Erin

I was going to PM you but since I get this question a lot, I thought I'd post it.

My old band was an AMI-swedish band that was installed 8/14/03 by Dr. Sanchez. After about 6 months and 4 fills I had a flouro/X-ray check which revealed a kink in the tubing. Well I suspected a leak, then confirmed it over 4 months later in mex, cause Dr. Sanchez recomended I go see him. At that visit the tubing was repaired and I was given a 7cc fill (big band), a month later my doctor (McKeen) here in Calif. did a flouro fill and that's when we saw that the repair didn't work. Back to mex I went and Dr. Sanchez decided to reband me, free (the makers of the AMI band is paying for it). Dr. Sanchez takes care of his people!

I haven't had a problem since except for at times I'm a bit too restricted. I had a small fill last month. I'm still able to eat a scoop of cottage cheese or tuna. It's the hard protiens I have to chew, chew, chew!

My thoughts are with you tomorrow.

Let us know how you are, I'll be expecting a post

Hi Erin. I was banded in Oakland at AltaBates Summit. I am able to eat anything I want. My doctor was very relaxed about food. He kept me on fot foods for the first 2 weeks and then said that I could advance my diet. His main concern was that I not eat bread, Pasta, or popcorn. He doesn't want me to throw up. I had lost 15 pounds at my first post op appt. two weeks ago. I don't own a scale so I haven't weighed lately. I may be going on a cruise in December so you will have to let me know how things go for you. The only "problem" I forsee is that I won't be able to eat massive and unlimited amounts of food. Keep me posted on your progress.

wow thats great ! I wish my Dr. was that lax. Im supposed to be on liquids for 3 weeks ! I never thought I would grow so sick of Jello ! lol Im not sure I will last the whole 3 weeks , but Im gonna give it a shot! I will let you know too how I did on the cruise ! Im more worried about being able to drink alcohol though on that trip ! I figure I can have Jello and liquid so maybe I could have vodka jello shots?! lol

Hello,

I know what you mean regarding waiting fo be on mushy foods. I am 6 days out from surgery and keep waking up wanting to "chew" something.

I know people tho are on strict liquids and are having a tough time at it. I always have a cup or two of clear broth - it really helps.

Best of luck to you!

Darla

I'm in Eureka (up by the Oregon border). My surgery will happen after the first of the year. I'm diabetic, and was told by my surgeon that I must get my blood sugars under better control before she will operate. And more power to her; I like it that she's tough and uncompromising.

So for now, I'm still in the research (and pre-op dieting) phase. You're right, it IS nice to have you all right here in the same state and just a keyboard away!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
