Cali Bandsters Unite!!

I know just how you feel I was banded on 8/23/07 and I could not take that pain. the thing that helped me was walking, walking, walking. I know just what you are talking about when it comes to the liquid part of the being banded. The mushi food will be better. just remember that you still have to eat slowly.

I will be going in for my first fill on 10/16/07 and then back to liquids and so on. the good thing is that I have lost 10lbs from the day that I was banded.

Hi Jennifer,

There is a large support group @ Good Samaritan Hospital , Dana Schroeder runs it and she is bypass and her daughter is banded, it is a very large group. You also may want to try BayBandsters@yahoogroups.com someone there may know the times of the meetings.

I hope you can find a support group!!!I think it is very important to have face to face contact.

Best wishes,

Donna

I live in the East Bay and would love to either start a group or join an existing one. I was banded June 28th and as of today I have lost 50 big ones. I think a support group is good for anyone wanting to share problems, successes and share ideas. Any takers?

HI all

I was banded in Mexicali on May 7th 2007. So far I am down 30 pound. I live right by the Angels Stadium in Orange. Is anyone close to me, I would love to meet up with other bandsters.

Hugs

I'm in Santa Ana near south coast plaza. I am being banded by Dr. Braverman from the N.E.W. program in Newport Beach. I'm on my 2 week Optifast pre-surg diet and am not really physically hunger as I am head-hungry. But overall I am doing pretty good. I just wish my band-day was here already.

Hi Valerie

It will be here before you know it. The head hunger is worse than the stomach hunger as it tricks you into thinking you are hungry. Keep in touch and let us know how it is going

Hugs

Myra

Can anyone help me out there. I was banded on 2/07 and still have not lost that much weight. I never feel full and the only reason I stop eating is that I sometimes choke on food and it takes forever to get it down, making it fearful to eat. I wasn't under the impression when I got this surgery that this was the results. "choking instead of satiety".

Hi, I am from San Rafael and am 62 years old. I would love to take walks with someone who can relate to this surgery.

Hi Connie - I'm a little too far for the walk - I'm up in Windsor, just north of Santa Rosa, but would love to talk with someone who's had the lap band as I'm just beginning my research. I'm 61, by the way, so we're in the same age group and the same part of the State, anyway.

Hey Myra,

I used to live at the Terrace Apts in Orange (at the Block). I miss passing by Angels Stadium every day :) Well, with the exception of game days (yay traffic). Err, I just miss living in OC.

Nice to 'meet' ya!

I'm in Mission Viejo and just got banded on Thursday, 10/18. I've been really hungry and am trying to be satisfied with the skim milk and slim fast and crystal light.

I'm not sure when I'm supposed to have my first fill...does the doctor determine that or do we schedule it.

My doctor is Doctor Liu from the Oband Center in Orange.

Thanks for any responses!

Becky

What are you eating??? How many caloires do you consume a day? Are you exercising???

Do you know what full feels like - I am not taking stuffed but full. That is a new feeling for us - cuz we never stopped eating until we were stuffed prior to banding,..

What foods make you choke??? Gotta give us a little more info so that we can help.

Ususally choking aka golf ball in the chest or pbing occurr - from eating too fast not chewing eating foods that don't agree with your band (breads dry meats for some anyway) and from eating too much.

Let me know what you eat in a day - what kind of exercise you do and how many grams of Protein and calories you consume daily -

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
