WOW! I haven't been to Mimi's in so long that I had forgotten all about it. Nice to know they're still keepin it goin. So far, I have only lost about 60 pounds. Due to insurance changes, I have been having tons of trouble receiving an adjustment from a well- qualified band surgeon. So, I have taken it up with the managed health care department in Sacramento. The last fill I had was in December. Although I have managed to maintain my weight due to extreme physical activity, I am more than ready to start losing again. It's time ;-) Despite all of this, I love my band. Overall, I have been having a fantastic journey! Hope you've been having a great journey with yours as well :)

Hi everyone, I am from Marin County, California. I had my surgery 4/4/07 and lst fill l month later. My problem is I can still eat large portions and have not got the feeling of fullness ever. Sometimes I feel as though my food is stuck in my throat rather than in stomach. I don't understand why that happens. Anyone out there that can tell me.

Connie, It sounds like you still need more of a fill to get to your sweet spot. I have days where I can eat more than others but it is still hard to eat a full size meal because of restriction. I would call and talk to your Dr. if you feel you are eating as much as before being banded. The whole point of this tool is for us to feel full quicker so if you are not achiving this then you should check with your Dr. and schedule a fill. I think everyone is different when it comes to feeling a PB. Sometimes I get a pressing pain where my band is and that signals "Stop Eating" or you will be in lots of pain. Sometimes it is a feeling of the top of my esophegus and my food doesn't want to go down and you want to hit your chest as to unlodge it. I think that I might have a very sensative esophegus which has been the case since I recieved the band. I have learned to listen to my body when the pain starts or the pressure and to put down the fork and walk around for awhile. I then tend to get the fullness feeling more than as to keep eating. Hope this helps. I have read that it might take up to 6 fills to get the restriction that is needed. Some it might be the first. Everyone is different. I ordered a book on Amazon today that was written by Mahamad Ali's daughter called Banding...Fighting weight. I just found out on another thread that she had even been banded. Who knew. She had lost a big amount and I can't wait to read her story.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
