First fill yesterday, don't notice a difference

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 11/7/08 and had my first fill 12/5/08. The Dr. withdrew about 2 cc from my band that was used to check the band before it was put into me, then pulled back into the tubing just kind of sitting there. He added 3 new cc and pushed it all on for a total of about 5cc in the band/tubing. I felt the band tighten around my stomach when he inserted the saline, but still do not feel restriction. I have my second fill 12/18/08 and I can't wait.

I did catch a stomach virus earlier this week and truly believe my stomach was swollen because I absolutely felt restriction until I got better. That was wierd, but it did show me what restriction felt like. I couldn't eat any bread because it felt like it was getting stuck. I didn't PB or anything, but it hurt until I got it moved through. I'll definitely be careful after my next feel! :)

I got my first fill yesterday, what a experience. I had 3 cc in my 10cc band from surgery, we then put an additional 1.5cc in. I sit up and was very dizzy took a sip and had such pain and nausea. I acutally threw up my sip of water! So we removed all the Fluid, immediate relief, and put back in a total of 4cc. So far no problems but my stomach is sore but I ate some yogurt this morning without problem so I will take it easy and see what happens. I was shocked at the reaction I had, my nubby was there and it shook him up as well! It was the first time I thought, what have I done!

It sounds like you have a vagal response. I have two friends who have had that problem. One fainted in the office! The other got dizzy and diaphoretic. I'm glad you're doing better today!

I have had three fills and I have a total of a 3.5 cc in a 9 cc band, the doctor says people start feeling good restriction around 4.0-4.5 cc. I can tell a difference in the amount I can eat, but I am still able to tolerate most foods, Which is good. The weight continues to steady falls off, so I have no complaints in that department either.

I had my first fill yesterday, I noticed some tightness yesterday evening and then this morning nothing really. My doc told me I would only be able to tolerate liquid for 24hrs, but I had eggs for Breakfast. Today I dont feel much restriction however I can tell that I feel full longer. I just worry about the amount I can eat. Does anyone else feel like you can eat more than you should. I dont exactly measure what I eat but I stop eating as soon as I feel full, and of course It's not much but I feel like its more than 2 oz. I dont know I dont mean to ramble but Im newly banded and having mixed emotions so to say.

Banded: 11/21/08

First fill: 12/18/08 (1 cc)

Total Weight Loss: 25 lbs.

Were you told to not eat more than 2 oz each meal? My doc says 1 cup to 1 and 1/2 cup each meal. Protein first. I do measure my food because I don't want to stretch my pouch. IF I eat my 1 cup of mostly Protein and then an satiated for 4 hours, I know I am in my green zone. IF I get hungry before 4 hours, I eat some fruit and I know it's time for another fill. I was banded 10 months ago and I've lost 125lbs. I've had 4 fills.

No I wasn't told not to eat more than 2 oz. each meal they just said that was an Ideal amount of how much my pouch would hold. what I do Is I only eat until I get the first feeling of fullness If I get hungry before about six hrs I drink Tomato juice.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
