100 Calorie snacks... Friend or Foe??

Recommended Posts

I think healthy Snacks are good. I make my own snack packs, because it's cheaper. I weigh out the products and bag them up.

I make snack packs of:

1. Nuts

2. dry fruit

3. Trail mix

4. Crackers and cheese

My snack packs are not 100 calories, but they have Protein, which I try to keep in my Snacks.< /p>

Hey nothing wrong with them as far as I am concerned. We need Snacks. I have either a fat/sugar free container of pudding with small spoonful of a new low fat/no sugar whipped topping. Or One Bar of Bryers sugar free low fat chocolate covered ice cream. Yummy. It gets me through the day of eating good healthy foods. Keeps me from eating the bad stuff.

I think they are a waste of money! Use Portion Control and divide out your own...

my surgeon says NO Snacks anyway! I know they aren't all that strict, but he is.

100 calories for a snack is good, but if its packaged food, its not.

You'd be better off eating a piece of cheese and an apple, some raw veges and hummus, some greek yogurt, some wholegrain crackers and Peanut Butter, etc.

But if they keep you on the straight and narrow for the rest of the day then they're surving an important purpose. Just try to sometimes eat fresh healthy food instead.

Main ingredient in many of them are bleached flour and sugar so I avoid them. I avoid the packaged stuff but when I do have them I buy the South Beach Diet Snacks which are much lower in sugar than most and they use whole grains and have a little extra Protein and Fiber.< /p>

Please! Tell me what you think.. I kinda feel bad for eating them but then try to justify it because they are 100 calories. What's your opinion? Thanks Mang!

These are definitely a FOE!!!! They are just bad food in small portions and you need the fat, sugar, carbs, and calories. Get yourself some healthy Snacks like fruit or nuts and seeds. You know as weel as I that we should be eating that crap. It only leads to worse food choices. Please dont rry to justify by thinking they are only 100 calories. That kind of stuff is for school kids to ake in their lunch bags or skinny people who are satisifed with a "little taste" of bad food. Its not for people like us who have food addictions. Listen, every once in a while is ok. We're human. It wouldnt be normal to NEVER eat those foods again, but just occasionally. Hell, I have a family Christmas party SAturday and you can bet ur ass I'll be eating a little of everything, including dessert. But, Sunday I will be back on track. I know its hard, believe me. Good luck to you AND me!!!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
