Morning Sickness..or lack thereof

Recommended Posts

Hello friends! I tried looking for a thread specific to my concern with this and didn't, so I'm posting a new one. I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and am concerned about the lack of morning sickness I am experiencing. Our first pre-natal appointment isn't until December 29th, so I'm naturally going a little bonkers here.

I've read that lack of morning sickness is tied to higher rates of miscarriage and of course, that is very concerning to me!

1. How many of you out there suffered from morning sickness?

2. When did it start? books say it starts around 5 or 6 weeks.

3. If you DIDN'T have morning sickness, did you go on to have a healthy pregnancy?

I'm just a bit freaked out...:(:confused::eek::confused:

For me, I didn't start feeling nauseated until well into my 7th week. It started with an "off-type" feeling that would last a couple of hours. Unlike what the baby books suggest, it wasn't like I woke up one morning with full-blow morning sickness. Instead, it was a gradual progression. Also, I didn't experience the nausea every day, but rather, it seemed to be heavier some days and none at all other days.

I never had to throw up. For me, it was more nausea accompanied by a weird full/bloated feeling that was just plain annoying. Don't think that you have to have bouts of throwing up for it to qualify as morning sickness. Also, you may find that you feel sicker in the afternoons and evenings like I did.

I know it's easy for me to say this, but try not to worry about not having morning sickness yet. There's been a few ladies on this board who have had no MS at all. And I really don't believe the whole, no MS means an increase in miscarriage. I've simply known too many women who did not have any MS that went on to have healthy, normal pregnancies and babies.

Not sure where you heard this, I never had morning sickness and was also worried.. my doc said it happens, and when I looked up online, many forums say it's just the luck of the draw and has absolutely no indication as to the health of the pregnancy.

So yeah.. I never had morning sickness, I am 21 weeks and nothing wrong so far.

babycenter.com, americanpregnancy.com and the What to Expect Book all state that there are ties between lack of morning sickness being a slight indicator for early increased risk of miscarriage. The correlation is that hormone surges cause morning sickness and a miscarrying pregnancy will have decreasing hormones, not surging hormones.

I gave up and called the doc, she said to try and relax and that it's common not to have it...I'm just scared...

This is my third baby and each pregnancy has been different as far as morning sickness is concerned. With my first, it hit about 6 1/2 weeks. I was sick all day everyday until I was about 20 weeks. With my second, I had no clue I was pregnant and then I started throwing up and was really nauseous all day everyday for a week. I figured out that I was pregnant, saw the doctor and I was about 6 weeks so it started at like 5 weeks. That was the only week I vomited, but I did have a lot of nausea all the time. With this pregnancy, I haven't thrown up at all. I did have about 3 weeks between about 6-9 weeks where I was pretty queasy in the morning/early afternoon, but fine in the evenings. That has since passed pretty much. I still have days here and there when I feel a little queasy. I'll be 12 weeks on Friday and every indication is that this is a healthy baby (we've seen the baby and heartbeat on ultrasound every 2 weeks since 6 weeks).

It may very well start soon. I remember with my first, I saw the doctor at about 5 1/2 weeks and the nurse asked if I had any nausea. I told her I didn't and she said, well, wait until next week and we'll see how you feel. Needless to say, when I went back in a week later, it was a much different story.

I had no morning sickness at all for my first pregnancy. I threw up once when we were driving cross country. I wasn't nauseous but was sleeping - woke up and realized I needed a bathroom rather quickly. I had the watery mouth, jaw aching kind of feeling - I only remember it so well because it was the only time it happened.

With this pregnancy I am almost never naseous and really don't have morning sickness at all. However, if I eat too much I will PB easily. I think this is more band than anything else. I feel fine, I eat, I bypass my signal because I am hungrier with pregnancy and have less of a fill so it is not so obvious, then I feel the chest tightness - a pb comes and it is done.

My pregnancy is very healthy so far. I think some of us are just unaffected by morning sickness - but I did suffer from emotional upheaval and extreme fatigue the first couple of months. I still have it now just not so bad.

Yeah maybe it is a boy

I just had my 20 (technically 21) week ultrasound, and it's a boy.. and everything is normal and healthy, so my lack of morning sickness didn't mean anything about his health.

I still don't have morning sickness . . . but I have been vomiting lately. I had to fly both yesterday and today for a business trip and I was sick on both flights. Out of nowhere I seem to be getting sick around 3 times a week on average for the last month or so and my band is unfilled and completely open, thank goodness.

It seems to be after I eat and the food is sitting for a while - it almost seems like my stomach sometimes rejects it afterwards.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
