Chinese food

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I recently (and finally) got some restriction on my last fill and now I'm wondering....I have to go to a Christmas dinner at a Chinese restaurant and am not sure what foods would go down best. Any suggestions?

The only thing I can't handle with chinese food are the fibrous veggies especially broccoli. And also, I skip the rice. chicken dishes might be best, pork and beef have the potential to be more difficult. Some people can't handle shrimp but I do fine with it. Also, I don't order spicy dishes anymore because of the no drinking rule.

Their Soups are pretty good. The hot and sour Soup goes down pretty well. I also like to order the spicy tofu because it is really soft. I usually order this and add about two ounces of their rice. This becomes three good meals for me.

I avoid the General Tso's chicken like the plague. Any of the chunck chicken doesn't go down so well.

Rice and noodles are my pick. But many bandsters have problems with rice and noodles. So get a sampler of things and just enjoy conversation and the company of others.

I can eat any of the vegetable dishes, shrimp, scallops, and egg foo yung. I can't eat rice at all. Doesn't agree with my band. I also like vegetable egg rolls.

Hate to tell you but everyone is different. What is well tolerated by one isn't for another. You're going to have to do trial and error for a while. You may not want to try that in a party atmosphere. Egg drop Soup and soft cooked veggies should be somewhat safe. I'd try eating some Chinese a day or two before you go and see what you're okay with. would hate for you to have your first PB episode in public!!

I had this same issue a couple of weeks ago and I ended up having Soup. The weather was really cold outside so the soup was perfect. Thus, no one in our lunch party questioned my decision to just have the soup.

Thanks a lot for asking this question! And thanks for the advice.

I think I'll stick to tofu - in Soup, or braised - when I start back on solid foods.

I wonder if anyone has tried seitan or wheat gluten substitutes that some Asian restaurants use in place of meat. Vegetarian restaurants use these products, also. I'm hoping these items are as easily digested.

Yeah....I think everyon is different but I order the General Joe chicken but skip the rice or Pot Stickers.....I also sometimes make pot stickers at home (Target brand) but can only eat about 3 total.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
