Florida Pete 1 Posted December 10, 2008 So yesterday was my first day on full liquids. So I thought for dinner last night I would puree up some Soup and see how that goes down. I had clam chowder. It was great! Funny how after a short time on the Clear Liquids how something like pureed soup tastes so great. So what have you tried for full liquids? Florida Pete 1 Posted December 10, 2008 What the docs orders are of course is making good food choices but for the full liquids he said that anything that you can suck through a straw is allowed during the full liquids. A couple of months ago I bought the bullet and so what I did was take 1 serving of clam chowder and 1 serving of milk and then pureed it smooth. This way I got a decent amount of protien yet still had something that tasted decent. I did this for dinner last night and lunch today. I am doing the Atkins shakes at Breakfast with of course drinking plenty of Water between meals.
gmechile 0 Posted December 10, 2008 Florida Pete, I can't wait to get to full liquids. I'm on clear liquids for the first 2 weeks -- off to full liquids on the 18th. Some of the things that I'm looking forward to: Protein shakes -- homemade with Protein powder, some crystal lite lemonade and frozen berries, mmm Tomato Soup smoothies (lots of protein) Individual Size Skim chocolate Milk I can't wait, but not until the 18th! auggies 0 Posted December 10, 2008 Campbell Soup makes some really good V8 Soups. I love the Southwest one but you need to blend it and strain it as there are pieces of corn in it. I love the spice though. I'm on my full liquid pre-op diet right now - day 5. Surgery is on Monday the 15th.
Florida Pete 1 Posted December 10, 2008 Well I thought I would try chili tonight. Blended it with an equal amount of beef broth to thin it out. It's pretty good actually. Amazing what you can come up with. LOL
JWhipple 0 Posted December 11, 2008 Man oh man oh man - you've got my mouth watering! Nothing better than a warm cup o' chili! Guess I'll need to stew up a pot of it and go that route once I get past the clear liquid stage!
angcal26 2 Posted December 11, 2008 Florida Pete: You are Banded!!! Congrats!! I loved Tomato Soup and any Soups that I could stick in the blender. Lentil and then mushies I would puree everything!!!! Let me know how you are progressing. It's a whole new world now!! Angcal26
Mr.Mike 0 Posted December 11, 2008 Hey Pete. I too bought a bullet and its the best thing I ever bought. I can't live without it. I put everything and I mean everything in it. I lived on Soups for almost a week. I went to Trader Joes and bought low sodium soups but honestly their Tomato Soup was like heaven. I had my wife make vegetable Soup and put it in the bullet and it was delicious. I also did the chicken soup thing. It doesnt taste any different because its puree or mashed! Florida Pete 1 Posted December 11, 2008 A month a go or so I saw a topic where people were talking about the bullet and that's what pushed me to get one. Only $50 a Target and Walmart so I was like hell why not. It's been great. Keeps the serving size down and easy to through those cups into the microwave to nuke and heat up. I think it will be great for the mushies stage too! Just won't have to blend things as long. LOL
Mr.Mike 0 Posted December 11, 2008 Pete I will tell you one thing about the bullet when you get to put regular food in it. You have to make sure its moist or add some sort of liquid or it will bunch up on the sides and not mush enough. I found that out when I tried the pizza. I had to add some sauce or it wouldnt blend it enough. Are you still doing Protein Shakes? If so I blend the hell out of the shake with the 3 blades and get it thick. I then put it in the ice box for a while and its almost like eating ice cream. It helped cure a craving I was having while watching the football games. I was able to eat a gallon of ice cream at a time before so believe me I miss it and this worked.
Florida Pete 1 Posted December 11, 2008 Yeah when I did the chili it was actually Campbell's Chunky Chili which is about 2 cups of chili. So I took 1 cup of chili and 1 cup of beef broth and put that into the bullet. Worked out great. I have a normal blender too which is pretty nice and last night I was able to do a full can of the Campbell's Chunky chicken Noodle Soup which doesn't have all that much broth and then two couple of Vegetable stock and blended that right up too. So today for lunch I had some of that and it wasn't to bad. Between the bullet and my larger blender it's all going down pretty smooth.
lojo 0 Posted December 12, 2008 Hi December 08 Bandsters: I was banded 12/11/08 and doing great. I was surprised I was able to sleep in my bed. I plan to walk today. I'm sure how gas pains feel. I have some tightness in my port and chest area. I've been up since 6:00 this morning. This is very unusual for me. I'm on Clear liquids for 5 days and then on to full liquids. Can we sip slowly through a straw? I hope I can get the 60 oz of Water down today? How long does it take you to drink 64 oz. of Water and your Protein requirement in a day? I teach school so I'm a little worried how I'm going to manage? any suggestions.
Buccfan 0 Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Congrats Lojo. I just got banded on the 10th. I did great in the hospital got up every 2 hour walked for at least 50 minutes in the hospital hall ways. Got home on the 11th around noon. Stomach really started to tighten up. Best thing I can descripe it is like getting hit with a baseball bat a couple of times. I have to be real close to the bathroom bowel movement are something else. As far as the clear liquids im just drinking small sips out of a bottle there shouldnt be that much resticions on the band yet. When you say clear liquid thats all it is you don't drink the protien shakes till after you 5 days. Good luck. Florida Pete 1 Posted December 12, 2008 First off congrats on your banding lojo! Well a big no no is drinking from a straw. When drinking through a straw you end up swallowing a lot of air which is not good at all especially during the healing process. So don't plan on using a straw at all from now on. Plus after restriction putting air into your stomach will cause false full feelings to and then you won't consume enough nutritian that your body needs. I have no problems getting 60 plus oz of liquid a day. I usually drink a glass (16oz) of Water first thing in the morning. Then while on the full liquids I drink an Atkins shake for Breakfast (11oz) and then will have another glass of Water between breakfast and lunch (16oz). At lunch I have Soup mixed with broth so it's very very thinned out but still has plenty of Protein and nutrition (16oz) then another glass or two of water before dinner (32oz). At dinner again soup (16oz) and the to finish off the night I will have another glass of water or apple juice. (16oz). So you see I am well above the 60 oz. Substitute soup for broth and there is your clear liquid phase. While teaching I just would make sure they are aware that you had surgery so that if you have a need to get to the bathroom that someone can cover you quickly. I've been at work (desk job) all this week except for Monday and I really haven't had any problems. Good luck too you and Congrats once again!
