Banding 27th Jan

Recommended Posts

My op is next Wednesday (28th) but so far I have only lost 2 lousy kilos on the Optiyuk. I havent even cheated once so dont seem to be doing as well as most do on that stuff! I am having the shakes 3 times a day and only ONCE a day I am having a few lettuce leaves, Tomato etc....or a couple of veggies...must admit i do have slightly more than the "one cupful" I was told...but only once a day? I have no idea how anyone could possibly manage that Optifast as a full time diet, its the most repulsive thing i have ever swallowed!!

Hey all,

Don't worry Granny about only losing 2kg.....you have probably stripped all the weight off your liver, which is what it is aimed at doing. Sounds like you have been good and done all the right things so it should get results even if you see them on the scale.

Is everyone getting a little nervous now? I had my pre-surgery clinic on Tuesday and Surgeons visit Friday so am good to go! Hospital rang Friday and said I can have light brekky at 6am (might shout myself a piece of toast and vegimite as a good bye present) as I am not getting done till after lunch.........probably around 1.30. Packed my hospital bag today but they are aiming to have me out by 10am the next day so I wont need much.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie.......have a great Australia Day.

I will check in again on Monday night to wish everyone well.

:w00t:

Cheers :cheers2: Tracy

well the 28th came and now I am banded too! I ended up losing 3 kilos on the Optiyuk but havent been on the scales since getting home yesterday. I am having more pain than I was expecting, but am thinking it is probably because of my age (60)...everything hurts anyway! While in hospital I had no pain and no painkillers, but now at home its a different story. I must admit I am a bit slack when it come to taking pills though, so my own fault. I have only taken 3 nurofen all day.....must go take some more. No sign of nausea so thats a good thing anyway! I thik the pain is a little less this afternoon than it was this morning, so should be better again by tomorrow! Just wanting to get fit enough now to start throwing away clothes!:scared:

another day almost over (31st) and am feeling a lot better today. I would say in another two days I should almost be back to normal...well not quite but I can certainly feel the improvement. The shoulder and chest pain has almost gone, just a few niggles here and there....the stomach area feels very badly bruised...which I suppose it is.....only had pain killers twice in 24 hours. Drinking fruit juices, herbal and green tea and strained chicken noodle Soup plus as much Water as I can take. Half a cup of chicken noodle soup did three meals!! Hubbys birthday today so he missed out big time...he has just gone to buy fish and chips for his dinner....BUT will eat it at the shops before he comes home......LOL...I am not at all hungry but the smell of fish and chips could be deadly! I weighed myself last night and was shocked to find I had PUT ON A KILO since the operation......hope its just all the fluids they "dripped" into me in hospital.....

Hi all,

7 days post op now with my brand new 'midband' installed.

Going fairly well but missing the comfort of eating :w00t:.

The whole hospital experience was fine. Op only took 50 minutes and I had minimal pain. The worst part was getting out of bed every 2 hours to go to the loo because of the drip. Made it hard to get a good nights sleep. Out the next day and just had a bit of discomfort whilst band was settling in for the first few days. Soon discovered that I cannot start the day off with juice as it is a bit too acidic for first thing in the morning so I kick off with a cup of tea and drink the juices later in the day. Wounds are getting itchy now so they must be healing well. I am a tummy sleeper and I have been able to sleep comfortably on my tummy for the last 2 nights.:tt2:

I see my dietician on Friday and I can't wait to start on mushy foods so that I can eat 'real' food blended. It has been very hard to cook meals for my family and watch them eat them whilst I drink soup!.

Doctor told me not to Drive for a week but I was fine on the fourth day and drove to Hospital to see my mum who had just had major surgery. It was easy to get into 4WD and I put the seat right up so that I was sitting up straight and had no trouble with 45 minute drive.

Is everyone else looking foward to tasty foods again?

So Glad to hear you are going OK Granny and Tas.

Cheers, Tracy

I am looking forward to going grocery shopping in 2 days time...that will be Day 10 for me. I havent had a problem with any of my drinks or Soups so figure some well blended veggies or stewed fruits should be ok by now.

I am also a tummy sleeper and have been fairly comfortable for the last two nights, so everything is getting back to normal quite quickly! I just moan and groan a bit when I want to go from side to side......

Gettting bored with so much tea, fruit juice and thin soups now...after all its been a long time since we have eaten "real" food! I had a small glass of milo a couple if days ago....boy did that taste good!

Hubby is doing a good job of feeding himself....we are lucky we dont have kids at home to worry about only the dog....and Im not quite desperate enough to fight him for his food!!

Hey 27 Januaries,

How is everyone going?

Anyone had fills yet? I have had 2 so far (total 3ml) but not feeling a great deal of difference just yet. Need to be very careful when I start eating to chew reeeaally well for the first few bites until everything gets working. Then I can eat way too much. No problem to get about 3 cups of food down, so hoping the next fill will be the one that will put a stop to that! Have lost about 8 Kg so far but weight loss is very slow with the amount that I can eat.

Missing fresh white bread a bit but I even struggle now with soy and linseed toast so I have no desire to attemp it. chips also hurt, so they are gone!

Only PB'd twice but both times did not chew well when I started to eat.........own stupid fault.

Hope you are all doing well. keep me posted on how you are all going. Any major problems?

:) Cheers, Tracy

Hi new to this thread, finding it hard to navigate my way round. I was banded on Jan 27 in Sydney too! Have lost total of 16 kilos so far, but VERY slow, most was pre op. Had first fill 3 weeks ago, struggling to adjust to it. Have got lots of things stuck!! Hurts like hell at times and still quite hungry!!

I had my first fill a month after the op......Doc said there was already 2 mls in the band, so he added another 3 mls. I had no trouble with any type of food, but avoided things like bread "just in case". Unfortunately I only lost about 2 kilos that month....very unsatisfactory! I really didnt eat anything "bad"...obviously just too much of everything (even if it was only about a third of what I "used" to eat!) Second fill Doc added just over another 1ml...think he said 1.1.....amazing how much difference that has made!! Now I cant eat ANYTHING.......:tt2: can hardly get Water down.......but I am going to put up with it for the rest of the month. In a week I have lost almost 3 kilos......living on fluids again for a month wont kill me.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
