should this normal?

When were you banded? How much do you eat? WHAT are you eating? If you were recently banded and eating foods that give you gas, it can be normal. Best bet is to call your surgeon and ask!

I had this problem too. I read that sometimes its gas and sometimes its a nerve (I think it is something to do with the band being close to the diaphram). If I ate too much my shoulder would ache something awful. It finally went away after a few months.:tt1:

I get the same pain in my shoulder. I'm six months out and I know that means I ate too much. Its in the same shoulder that I had the original gas pain in after surgery.

I didn't have this early on, but twice the week of Thanksgiving this year (I am almost 2 years out from surgery) I had a horrible pain in my left shoulder after eating, felt like my arm was dislocated. I googled some info, it seems your diaphragm nerves are actually located in your shoulder! For me it went away after about an hour or so.

My left shoulder hurts when I eat, as well. It was a toss up for me whether it was from eating or a muscle. I was leaning toward eating, but just recently. Once I stop eating, the pain usually stops. Just figured it was one of the quirks of a band. Didn't know about the diaphragm muscles.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
