Has anyone used Dr. Texeira for lapband surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am considering the lapband. Dr Fielding is not covered under my insurance. Dr. Texeira is highly recommended by my doctor who I love and trust. However, he is mostly known for gastric bypass procedures. Has anyone been banded by Dr. Texeira at St. Lukes Hospital?

I have an appt for the seminar on Jan 8th and with Dr. Texeira on Jan 23...I was questioning the same thing because when you go on the website it talks very little about lap band surgery which i wasnt too confortable about but since my new PCP is at St. Lukes I was going to give it shot. But I also have an appt at CUMC as well for Dr. Schrope which I heard was excellent. So depending on your insurance you have other options in the NYC area. Hope this helps! Let me know what you deceide.

Good Luck,

Dawn

Hey Daisky23. Thanks for the reply. I am about a week ahead of you. The informational is tomorrow and my appointment with Dr. Tiexeira is Jan. 16th. Forgive me, but I do not know which hospital CUMC stands for. I am wondering if my insurance will even cover the surgery. When I called to inquire they stated that it was a case by case basis. I keep hearing that the bypass is usally covered but the lapband may not since it is not proven to be successful............I will keep you posted.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
