After 18 months soda craving is back

Recommended Posts

Pre banding I lived on Diet Coke and Diet Dr. Pepper. at least 1 two liter bottle a day.

Since being banded 18 months ago I haven't touched soda. I have been drinking Water, coffee, crystal light and Vitamin water . I didn't miss it at all until last week.

Now for the last week I have been craving of all things an orange soda. I never liked orange soda even at my heaviest but the thought of it now is enough to make me salivate.

What is up with this soda craving I thought I was over it ?

For me it was always about the bubbles! I crave it most of the time, but I have somehow been strong enough too.

A little sneaky pacifier of mine is this...Japanese soda candy. You get that fizzy sensation, but not real fizz.

Hang in there! You are doing so great!

I was like you.....loved my diet coke..... But now it tastes funny when I have attempted a sip... But regular Coke is better.. I have a sip of my husbands once in a great while... Nothing serious.. I swish it in my mouth to get some of the bubbles out. And of course after the ice melts some it loses some anyway. I've only done that a couple times, but I would love to do it more often... When I get to where you are I may be tempted to imbibe a bit more often... Congrats on such a wonderful success... That is totally awesome.. Julie

I spoke to my dr's nurse and she said that I could try soda if i let the carbonation fizz away which I might try...

I didnt have any cravings until I had a sip (really a swish around the mouth until it is flat and then a swallow) of the non-alcoholic carbonated grape juice that looks like it comes in a wine bottle about a week ago. I was in the kitchen at work today and I was looking at the diet pop thinking . . . man I want some grape soda.

I didn't indulge because I am afraid it is the start of a bad thing.

I so wish I had your problem. Lisa, I can't quit the habit. Today I was in bed w/ a borderline Migraine and after my 3rd dose of meds realized I haven't had my soda in 2 days. Got up went to the gas station...yep-20 minutes later I was fine.

I went on Atkins years ago and was able to kick it...well, sort of. Did get to where I was able to drink diet sodas and then more to the Crystal light or splenda koolaid.

We all have our demons...mine is definitely soda pop.

Go ahead and have a soda. Make sure it is on an empty stomach and go very slowly. I'd bet when the gas bubbles hurt your craving will go away.

I was never a big soda drinker to begin with. But every now and then I want a diet ginger ale or diet dr pepper..

What I have done is pour it into one glass then back into another back and forth til I make is almost flat - then I will have tiny sips - the carbornation makes me have the full sensation.

Like I said - not a big soda drinker - may do this once every 3 months..

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
