And, so, another 'newbie' here. I've been working towards a January surgery date...having to dance the 'two step' for Aetna to meet all of their requirements. Thus, they thought I should diet another six months and see my PCP monthly just to say I've dieted, I guess. Strange, haven't we all spent our lives fighting the battle? Regardless, we'll see what happens in the coming weeks. My great doctor at Baylor Col of Med in Houston was the one who twirled around on his little black stool and said, "I'm recommending you to our bariatric surgery team for Lap Band. If we get the weight off, many of these health issues will go away." I was in shock! But, I've seen the entire team, had an excellent 'heart' report after the big tests and all is on track. I finally attended a support group at BCM last Thursday and was told about this site. So, here I am...I do enjoy comments and pictures, but I really like to see a pic with a weight when it was taken. It gives great info to the 'looker'!! lolol

And, so, for today, hello, I'm Pat...in the loop and 'weighting' for a date! Have a super one yourself!! Oh, my surgeon is Dr. Vadim Sherman, head of the DeBakey Bariatric Surgical Team at Baylor College of Med in Houston. Yes, I've seen him and I was highly impressed with his demeanor, professionalism and more. And, yes, he has performed many, many surgeries.

Hello and Welcome to LBT.

Those insurance hoops can really put someone in a tail spin. If you stick to it though it all works out. I had BCBS but did have the 6 month diet. It all worked out fine and had my surgery in april. I am the sure everything will work out great for you.

I wish you the best of luck and a very speedy recovery :) hope to see you around the boards!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
