Hi everyone. I'm a little over 2 weeks out of surgery, I started mushy food 4 days ago. I'm definatley not eating enough which I'm trying really hard to work on - but I've also had this almost constant acidy feeling in my chest (esophogus) and the back of my throat for several days now. Has anyone else experienced this? I do have GERD and am taking Prevacid every day, but it seems to have gotten worse since the surgery. I know one can become acidy from not chewing enough, but this definatley isnt the issue for me. I havent felt nauseous or anything, just acidy and uncomfortable

Strange... Last day I took my acid reflux meds was the day before surgery. Havn't had one heartburn episode ever since.

For some people, their GERD gets worse after surgery, but no one really knows why. I have had GERD on and off for years and have taken Prilosec when I have a flare-up. A few months ago, I had a flare-up and the Prilosec did not help as usual. My doc actually recommended that I try Zantac, and that made a huge difference for me. A few weeks of the Zantac and my symptoms completely went away... now I don't need to take it... (till my next flare-up!)

Call your doc for some recommendations. They may try to up your dose of Prevacid, or they may recommend you try a different remedy.

GL!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
