First Fill-No Restriction- should I go back??

Recommended Posts

I just had my first fill on wed, Dec 3rd. They told me to drink a cup of Water in the office to make sure it went down ok. It did. I dont feel any restriction, dont get full after 1/2 cup of food and nothing gets stuck. I feel the tiniest bit of restriction, maybe, but other than that. I can eat what I want, not chew slowy, swallow big bites. I called doc and have another fill scheduled for this Friday. Am I jumping the gun too soon? Should I just wait till my "real" appointment on Jan 9th or should I go in for another fill. Does this have to kick in? Does it take a while to work. I see alot of posts that say that. Help me, please!!!!!

This is very common. It is best to start out slowly. If your doctor allows it and you think you are ready then yes I would get another fill. Mine tells me to wait one week and if at that time I still feel like I need another fill then go ahead and schedule it.

Wow!! My doc highly instructed me that the 1st few fills will give me no restriction, hence..."working the band yourself first".

When I was starting out, it was a 4-6 week period between fills, I'm sure I could have gone earlier if I'd watned to but that was just the general recommendation. However, with DH they're encouraging him to go in much quicker - 2 weeks - not sure if its anything to do with different bands or whatever.

I'd give it at least a week to make sure it doesnt suddenly tighten up but early on I dont see a problem with fills close together. If you can get in before Christmas great!

I know how you feel!

I got my first fill right before thanksgiving, and not scheduled again until the 29th.

My doctor is pretty strict with fills....no sooner then every 4 weeks! I am a bit disappointed, but he's the expert since he has been banding people since 2001!

Slower fills give your body more time to adjust and I am totally convinced that slow fills decrease the chance of band erosion (at least that's what I'm telling myself, lol).

Hang in there and work the Protein to feel more full!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
