I am scheduled to meet with my PCP on the 15th to discuss getting banded. I am hoping that it goes smoothly, my BMI is 43 & I have severe sleep apnea. My HMO is Kaiser in Portland and I haven't really been able to find out a lot about the process at the Portland Kaiser but I am praying for no hiccups.

I am a former college football player that has packed on over 108 pounds over the last 10 years, which places me at 338. This is due to being unable to workout or be active due to injuries I sustained while playing. I am hoping that the weight loss will allow me to get active again, erase my apnea, and ease the pain I experience when my activity increases.

Wish me luck!!

Hi there!

Welcome to the forum! this is a great place for information and support.

I haven't been banded yet, but I've read that pain is reduced for a lot of people. I also have severe sleep apnea, and while I'm not sure that we can lose our CPAP machines, the pressure could be lowered, as a result of weight loss.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Had my appointment with my PCP at Kaiser and everything went well. I officially have a BMI of 43 with 3 comorbidities (sleep apnea, hypertension, and high tryglycerides). He gave me a referral to KPNW Biatric Clinic so I am in a holding pattern for now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
