Hope my doc isn't mad

Recommended Posts

So-- I have my 4th fill on Wednesday.... I need some more restriction and am looking forward to that. However, I am losing REALLY slow. I weighed myself this morning and I am down to 186-187 (varies daily). Bascially 14 lbs in 12 weeks. Terrible.... I have a feeling my doc is not going to be happy with me and ask me what the deal is. I have some ideas on why I haven't lost a lot but can't believe I haven't lost more.

I weigh everything I eat to 4 oz portions and only eat 3x a day. No Snacks. I only drink hot tea (unsweet) with lemon or Water. I quit coffee completely because I cannot drink it without some kind of sugar and Creamer. Plus it started to give me heartburn.

Have I eaten some "bad" things-- Yes. I had 3 chicken wings on Saturday during the Gator game. I have had a slice of pizza for dinner. I have had a taco from Taco Bell for lunch because I had NO time. My justification is that it is better than the 15 wings or 4 slices I would have eaten before. I just need to just cut that crap out completely.

For the most part-- I eat 3 oz Protein (tuna, egg, chicken or steak) and 1 oz veggie (asparagus, broccoli, salad or spinach). I have a slice of toast if i have tuna salad. Not too many carbs in terms or rice or bread. Protein Shake for Breakfast because solid food in the morning is out of the question--too tight.

And I have a glass or 2 of wine a night--Ok 2 glasses. I measure out a 5 oz glass. I have come to the conclusion that i must cut this out as well. It is an extra 300 calories.

And I don't exersize because I work 10 hour days minimum and am exhausted. My fiance is trying to find a treadmill at a reasonable price (they are SO expensive!) so I don't have to worry about going to the gym and can come home (or wake up) and get on it.

It is my own ding dang fault but I really don't want to get into it with my doctor-- I have been really stressing about it the past 2 weeks Along with wondering each day if I still have a job and BEGGING the scale to go down I am about to go crazy. I don't have to go over it with him. I am realizing why I am not losing more....I just have to stick to it.

Just need a little support, suggestions......

14 pounds is still going in the right direction. I was told to lose at 1-2 pounds per week . . . you are doing that and you are probably healthier and less prone to hair loss than those of us who are losing more.

Charting might help you as well if you are not sure how many calories you are getting in daily . . . sometimes I find when I chart I am ingesting more than I thought I was because a little bite here and there does add up.

Exercise will definitely kick the loss into a higher gear for you. Even if you are working a lot of hours, it is still good to get it in, even if you start with 30 minutes 3x's a week. You can always get a 30 minute workout video at the library . . . this is free so no initial investment.

Sometimes you just have to shake up your routine a little to break a plateau or increase the rate of loss. You are already doing the right things . . . a small tweak to your routine might yield a big difference.

I love in Melbourne too lol - but on the other side of the world!

I dont get what right a doc really has to get "mad" at you. They're there (or should be) to support you, not be a drill sargeant. You're doing the right things, moving in the right direction and generally, we're managing if not quite an illness certainly a condition, and backsliding and pleateauing is going to happen no matter what.

I think your diet sounds healthy and sane - building a normal relationship with food is important, more important I think than living on some super strict pleasureless regime.

Where you have a problem is exercise. Its simply vital. If you dont have much time, spend it on really high intensity interval cardio and a little bit of weights or bodyweight stuff like squats and lunges, you can get enough exercise to really make a difference to your body in 3 to 4 sessions of 40 minutes or so. Those of us that choose to go out and run for an hour and a half at a time are doing so because we want to, not becuase its what you MUST do to lose weight.

I'm there with you. I only lost like 10 or 11lbs all the first 3 days post-op. I go up and down every couple of days. I've had one fill so far and the dr. is talking about another fill maybe before Christmas. I feel so bad about myself I hate it I can eat and eat all day if I want(I don't) but I could!! I just started exercising last week I still am trying to fit it into my life its hard. I feel better when I exercise. Due to having a stroke 2 years ago, I pull muscles very easy and did it twice already, then I dont want to do anything but sit with an ice pack. I am amazed that you had 4 fills my dr wanted me to wait till feb09 for the 2nd fill. I said no way!!! I'm gaining and have no restriction. Any advise???

The exercise is hard--- I am lucky to not have any problems with it other than lack of actually having the energy and time to do it. I had 3 fills bing bang boom (2 weeks between) and then have had to wait 1 month till my 4th. I was going to go in last week but decided to wait it out--it is hard for me to get off work. The first 3 were not large fill or "aggressive" so it gave me a little restriction at a time so I could gage the difference and get a handle on how long it takes for me to get hungry on the same amount of food. But I am READY for this one- fill er up!

Hang in there--My advise would be to lay it on the line to your doc-- everyone is different so what may work for other patients may not work for you.

Jachut--- Of course a fellow Melbournite (even if it's in another continent) would have give the reality check and totally awesome advise! I know it is the exercise that is really going to do it-- After I posted this last night I knew when I woke up I had to do something. So I signed up for a 5k at the beginning of February and am going to do the couch to 5k. I am going to "shut up and move my ass"!

As for my doc-- I think that I am really just mad at myself for not working out and not losing more and don't want to disappoint him. Me being Miss A Type personality and wanting to be #1 and perfect cannot stand to fail at anything.

Today is a much better day. Thank you so much Jachut! You're an inspiration and I get the feeling you're a really great friend too. :)

Good luck - glad to be of help!

I really was very lucky to have the time to have to put into exercise, and it led me to success. But my hubby is banded too and he works, long days. He simply doenst have the time to do what I did, so I undertstand what a problem that is for people. Short and sharp if its HARD work is absolutely fine - and its working for him!

Good luck with your couch to 5K, there is NOTHING like the accomplishment of running 5k for the first time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
