PB, Slimming or restriction

Recommended Posts

I was banded nov 5. I have lost 14 lbs to date and am on solids. I have what I thought was PB, not sure if its sliming. When I eat, I often get food "stuck". It feels like a sharp pain in my chest. I have to cough up/throw up my food. A few min. later I can eat my meal. I am afraid to eat certain foods, I dont kno wif it's happening b/c of the food or not chewing enough or not eating slow enough. I have my first fill scheduled for dec 18. I am worried that I will have more problems when I get a fill. Is what I am experiencing restriction or normal. HELP!!!

It sounds like you are eating too fast and/or taking too big of bites and/or not chewing well enough. Take bites the size of a pencil eraser. Chew until liquid in your mouth. Put your fork/spoon down between bites and wait a bit to see how its going down and how you feel before taking the next bite. Take at least a half hour to eat your 4-6 oz meal.

Hope that helps. You should probably call your surgeon and nutritionist. What is happening with you can cause some pretty serious band complications.

Until you are sure you are eating properly we can't give you an accurate answer as to what is causing your discomfort.

You have to pay close attention to how you are eating make sure you are taking small bites and chewing well. You should be sitting down at the table and not be distracted while you eat. Pay attention to what you are doing and train yourself to do it right. If you don't you are guaranteed problems with fills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
