is anyone familiar with Dr. Maese (waiting on ins) and hoping to join the club!!!

Hey guys, I am around the Dfw area and waiting on insurance to kick in. I already talked to Dr. Maese and his office about wanting to get the lapband done and maked sure that they accept my ins..Yes, they do :) So I am willing to hear any helpful info you may have on all of this...I have been reading alot of your posts and comments lately and they have helped so much.

I am 26 and have 3 kids, one of them is a toddler (20 months) who sleeps in a crib. So I have two Questions....

1) I am the only available person that can put him in his crib everyday will this effect the lapband? Not to mention that he is a Big momma's boy :)

2) I love to drink Water and it just get's really hot out here most the time. We go outside and swim and my kid's participate in sports in the hottest times of the year. So ofcourse I get really thirsty and did I mention love Water. lol Is this a problem?

Thanks:banana

Hi, my name is Joyce and I will have my band done Aug.24th. Dr Barker is doing the surgery, but Dr. Maese is going to do my fills. I also use him as my heart Dr. He is very strong spoken, very easy to understand what he is talking about. (Some Dr. go over your head). He is very nice and seem to actually care about his patients. I strongly suggest you use him.. Good luck. I fought my Ins. Co. for 7 months before they approved me...

I'm afraid my exerience with Dr Maese's office was not a good one. I went in for a consult and Dr aMaese wasn't even in town. I could have told he was on vacation and rescheduled. I really wanted to meet him.

The staff could not seem to get their answers together. Everyone said something different about what tests were needed, costs and recovery. It was like playing a game of "she said.." with a group of children. The PA did not have answers to my technical questions and no one wanted to find the answers.

I'm a bit at a loss as I am Medicare and not may doctors will accept it due the problems in getting paid. I am still hopeful that I can find someone as my situation is getting progressively worse.

Dr. Maese is WONDERFUL. He is the nephew of Dr. Sanchez (Monterrey Mexico) who did my banding. If you go to the Dallas office, insurance will cover the fill (BCBS - but did not cover the surgery) Dr. Maese and his staff have been great - see me when ever I need to have a fill - no wait. He is fast and no pain... yes, he is a cardiologist but totally understands how obesity leads to many diseases, especially heart disease. I'd recommend him to anyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
