A bit... contradicting?

So I know that liquids aren't recommended about an hour before and after a meal. But what if you're having Soup? Does this mean I'll never be able to have soup, like let's say chicken noodle soup, because it might just slip through the band?

Though I am sure you will get many different answers on this, your best bet is to talk with your doctor. Everyone's doctor has a different idea of what is ok or not ok. Get your doctor's take on it and follow that. Good luck on your surgery!

What I've done is had saltines, or some sort of cracker to thicken it up. It stuck with me. You know in the broth so they are soft, but not all liquid. I don't use a lot of broth either.

Good question. I wonder about this too, especially in-light of the cold weather. I like to have liquid Soup with a small meal.

I asked this question of my nutritionist not too long ago, and she said to eat Soups and Cereal as you wish, but just to not drink the leftover liquid after the solids are gone. She said the liquid that mixes in with each bite is fine, it's just guzzling the milk or broth left in the bowl that will help wash things down too quickly.

I put a less milk in my Cereal than prior to surgery which means that with each bite of cereal, I have more solid than liquid.

For Soup, I do the same thing - focus more on the vegerables in the soup than the actual liquid.

The reason you dont want to much liquid in your food is because it will reduce your long-term satiety after the meal - this is why I STAY AWAY from Soups as much as possible.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
