Band tight Stress??

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was looking for anyone who has a unexplained tightness to the point of not being able to drink Water without it feeling like knives. I was wondering if this could be stress? coffee? Salt? lack of hydration (I am not very good at drinking water). The last time I had this happen I had some Fluid taken out and it worked for a few weeks. I don't want to take any more out or I won't have any in.

Anyone have any suggestions on making the tightness go away naturally?

thanks for anyone's help. I have been banded 3 1/2 months

I'm going to say all of the above. Everything that you mentioned can cause tightness. The most common natural thing I have heard of is to drink something warm/hot before eating like tea or broth to prime the band. To be honest though, you might want to have them look at your band under fluro because Water should never hurt going down. I hope that you are able to resolve this either way.

Thanksgiving night my son had a seizure ( avery very long seizure) he was life flighted to another hospital. Well the stress of that shut my band down tight. I couldn't eat, or drink for many hours. I finally got to drink about noon time that next day. I was still hydrated but barely.

So I know for sure stress... TOM does it too.

The only time I feel realt tight restirction is in the morning. I have tea or coffee, something warm. Then a couple hours later I have Breakfast.< /p>

Teri, hope your son is OK and you can breath again!

I've had quite a few episodes where factors affected the restriction of the band. Besides those mentioned, salt intake can also makes the band temporarily tighter as the stoma tissues swell with excess Fluid. Making sure you're drinking lots of Water will help keep excess sodium flushed out.

After what everyone else posted... if it still doesn't get better pretty soon, you should consider going to your doctor for a small unfill. Don't worry about 'not having any Fluid in the band'. The goal isn't to have a lot of Fluid, the goal is to have the right amount (or non at all) to get you to comfortable restriction.

If Water hurts going down and it doesn't get better soon, see your doc, that's not normal or desireable. If it is stress-related tightness or something, you can always get a new fill later when things get less stressful.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
