Good luck to both of you!

I was banded on 10/27/08 in Austin, Texas, and I have been very glad I did. I weighed 386 pounds on 8/21/08 when I had the first appointment with my surgeon I started the pre-op diet required on 10/5/08, followed by surgery on 10/27/08, I had my first follow up on 11/3/08 and my weight was doan to 327, result of the pre-op diet and the first week of being on liquids. I had my 2nd follow up on 12/4/08 and my weight is now down to 307. I wish you both the best of luck, and hope you have similar success.

Larry

My surgery is this Thursday at 11:30am. I'm excited and a bit nervous. Thank goodness my sister will be here to help me through the first few days post op.

Good Luck to you on Monday...and thanks for the support. Have any of you had fruit juice on your preop diet. On mine, it lists juice that is 30 calories or less for an eight ounce serving. I feel like that would take my slight headache away. It's so weird that some doctors put you on a completely restricted diet, and other have you eating normally until the night before surgery. I understand that whole shrinking your liver thing, and I love the weight that I am already losing, but it's not easy .

Hi everyone,

I too am getting banded 12/8 @12pm. Check in at 10am. This last week has been hell but i am just staying focused. I have been on liquids only for the last 2 days, on my final day today before surgery. I have to say the best way is to avoid food and stay busy. I am nervous as well but more excited to start feeling better. Would love to stay in touch with those that are getting it done the same day. That would be a great for support for each other.:thumbup:

Hey! I am getting it done tomorrow at 1pm! I am 209.2 right now. Before the pre-op diet I was 224. I am also 5'2"...

I am nervous actually for my husband, who is 6'5" and at initial weigh in a month ago he was 506lbs. Now he's down to 460. He has a condition called cerebral giganticism, and when he was 300 lbs in high school he had 15% body fat. So he's doing WELL!!! I am just worried for him!

Eeek!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
