When does bandster HELL set in

Recommended Posts

Hi all... I was banded on 12/02...what a popular day. I feel great considering all I went through... was hungry coming out of surgery and for the entire next day but, now I'm fine. I've heard of Bandster Hell I guess it's when we get hungry because we haven't had our fills yet. Anyone familiar with this? How about a time frame????? is it a common occurance? Any info would be helpful!

I woke up from surgery hungry too. Some have more swelling which makes them not so hungry the first couple of weeks.

I couldnt have a fill until after 5 weeks passed, so I was hungry for 5 weeks, some less some have more. Iv had 3 fills and still hungry, but it could be head hunger too, but it feels like Im hungry. I ate an entire Lean Cusine last night, and not a real small one, lots of whole grain rice and I had been snacking all afternoon so shouldnt have been hungry right?

Trying to cut back today to make up.

My surgery was 12/2 also! I have to say you are one healthy woman ....When I thought of food for the 2 days post op I would be so nauseous it was awful. I was afraid this would last forever! I also was lucy enough to get my TOM the evening after my surgery that day!!! I think bandster hell is the time before you can get a fill because you are still healing. I made a salmon mouse by putting canned salmon in the blender for some time. It really was tasty and filled me up. Also Protein Shake and Jello work to curb the hunger pangs. Your fill will be here before you know it@1 Hang in there....this thing works ...you've seen the stats! :-)

I was banded on 11/5. I wasn't hungry in the slightest for 2 weeks. Then, for the next week I'd get hungry, but it didn't take much food to fill me up and keep me full. Then for the last week, I was hungry all the time. I would eat something that would fill me up, but I never stayed full for more than 3hrs until I was hungry again. That was my Bandster Hell!

Luckily I had a fill yesterday, which was exactly one month post-op, and it couldn't have been timed any better!!! Today, I'm back to not feeling hungry - so I have to say at this point my fill is working!

THanks for the post..I was wondering the same thing. I'm six days post-op and feeling great. I was hungry the day after surgery, but haven't been hungry since. Guess this lack of hunger won't last forever! Too bad, because I'm loving it!

I was banded on Nov. 20th and had not been hungry at all. I could barely get in all me liquids in the day. I started on mushy foods last week and doing great. Just today I starting feeling hungry. But it was like I would eat and then about 4 to 5 hours later I would start to get hungry. I haven't really been too discouraged because I am not eating much at all and so getting hungry 4 or 5 hours later seems like it would be normal. Is this right? Or am I crazy? I go for a fill on Dec. 16th and I think I can probably survive until then. Good Luck!!

It never did for me. By the time post op swelling and restriction was wearing off, I was ready for my first fill.

I can honestly say I have never battled hunger with the band until now, almost 3 years out when my body appears to have adapted to being banded and is directing me to eat little and often. I can manage it, its not bad, but definitely hunger has returned and tighter fills only mean more hunger coz I havent eaten enough!

Every person is different. I wasn't very swollen after surgery, so my bandster hell started right after surgery. I have had 2 fills and though it is better, I still get hungry sooner than 4 hours. Some doctors put some fill in during surgery, so some people never get hungry. If you are one of them, count your blessings. If not, your time for a fill will come sooner than you think. Good luck to all of you that have recently had surgery!

So happy I found this site!.... thanks for the input and some of you had me laughing out loud. OK so, someday I'll even figure out how to put in that Ticker and how to give the information in the little screen by my name until then, and if anyone is interested here's about me: Female, 51, Weight at Surgery 257 Weight today 254 (must be the coffee!) from the first time I heard of the LapBand I knew it would be for me... had a consult 3 years ago but "chickend out" I was afraid of the recovery... Started process again on October 12 of this year and the rest, as they say is History! Best thing I've done for myself since before kids- hahaha!

I am almost 1 week post op and almost all swelling is down, I am sticking to the liquids (bought TONS of soup) but I hope I get my first fill sooner than 6 weeks post op. On the 3rd day I became so thirsty and gorged on Water. I was trying to take it slow but it was a lot faster than recommended. I felt little restriction.

You shouldn't be restricted on Water. Even with the swelling after surgery, water should still go through fairly quickly. It's the thicker things that take longer to go through the band, like creamed Soups and pudding.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
