Thank you SO much to everyone who responded to my post, you all have been so much help!

To those who have the same date as me I would MOST definitely love to keep in touch with you all to give each other support!

To the question of how I lost 40 lbs pre op. I did weight watchers and worked out 3-5 days a week. I also just went through a rough break up with my boyfriend of 3 years so that could have something to do with it too. :wink2: I guess break ups are good for something right??? Its those first 40-60 lbs that I can lose, but the ones that pack back on me so fast!

Again, thanks for all of the help. Good luck to you all awaiting your band and also those who have already been banded! Its so great to know that there are people out there who truly understand this struggle and journey that we have all gone through! :crying:

My surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet. Most people are told it is to shrink the liver. My doctor kinda chuckled when I told him that and he said that IF it shrinks, at the most it would be 1 - 2 mm. His guess is that it is to help people get used to what is to come after surgery, kinda like a test. Clear Liquids and full liquids. Do what your doc tells you, even if it is hard. If you can't handle the pre-op diet, it will be hard to stay on the post-op diet which is more important and the main reasons why people fail at the band. My surgery was 30 minutes from the time I was wheeled in to the time I was in recovery. Good luck and stick with it, it is SOOOO worth it!!!!

My doc does require it but didnt for me with a BMI of 35. He said the same thing - pretty minimal benefit in those circumstances for such a harsh thing to put your body through.

although I've jsut been told very smartly on another thread that Optifast actually magically primes your body for weight loss. and if you believe that, I've got these wonderful pills to sell you.....

I have to disagree though with the idea that if you cant stick to the pre op diet you will struggle post op. In my experience, practice doesnt make perfect with dieting, its hard no matter what you do and I had FANTASTIC restriction after surgery, I didnt even want to think about food for eight weeks.

Lets not forget, you're doing post op with a band! I'd just hate for people to be down on themselves and terrified about what is to come - for a good portion of people post op is actually quite easy.

My surgery is sched for 12-15-08. Sooo excited. I am however on a pre -op diet. It is a clear liquid diet. broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, Water, tea. I feel like I'm going crazy. So be thankful you don't have to do this. I do know I will benefit in the long run.

I feel you on the liquids. I'm going insane!! I only have to do like 4 days of it but still, I've had the worst hunger pains in the world. Good luck!:rolleyes2: I'm being banded the same day!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
