A friend of mine has recently been banded and is quite open about it, but I haven't told her that I was. I ask very innocent and obvious questions.

I sure as hell hope I don't end up at the clinic the same time she is there for a fill.

Susan, now there's a confession I can work with! Looks great!

When people ask how I've lost the weight, I tell them Portion Control. It IS controlled!

Now for something non band related: Whenever I cook something I pretend I'm on a cooking show and when no one's home, I talk like I'm freaking Paula Deen or something. LOL  I imagine having a band friendly show on food Network. That'd be nice. Does that make me crazy?

I love this...! It's so sitcomish. I would expect it to be something Seinfeld would do a show on or something! Good luck! I hope you don't run into her!

I was supposed to diet for one week prior to my surgery, but I went on vacation instead and ate anything I wanted to. Then the day before my surgery, I fasted and ate nothing. It made little difference in the surgery outcome. I think they tell everyone to diet before surgery to lessen the fatty tissue around the stomach, and to prepare you for less eating ahead of time, but it doesn't matter.

I think my surgeon who went to university for MANY years and is a leading bariatric surgeon in Australia (where banding has happened for many years longer than some other countries, the US included) would beg to differ with your "it doesn't matter" comment. The reason for a pre op diet is to reduce the fat around your liver which lies above the stomach when you lay down. Obese people tend to lose weight from around their internal organs before they lose it visibly externally. Hence why you can lose A LOT of weight on a pre op diet and not notice it on the outside. My surgeon would have sewn me back up on the spot if my liver was too big to move to get to my stomach when he cut me open, and has been known to do that where it has been required on patients who have obviously disobeyed the pre op diet requirements and still have a fatty liver like you did. Moving it in surgery can pose a number of risks if its not less fatty.

I think what you have said DOESN'T MATTER because you don't have your facts right.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
