What does it feel like when you overeat/drink?

Recommended Posts

I am 10 days post-op and on the full liquids stage of my post-op diet. I have had periods where I feel like I've overdone it on the liquids. I haven't had any pbing or sliming, but just a really uncomfortable pain and pressure in my chest and upper back area, which stays for a long time, sometimes more than an hour.

Is this what it feels like when you overeat or overdrink? I don't seem to get any warning, it just happens all of a sudden after I have my meal, and then I have to stop.

Hi:

I think that when I do eat too fast, or too much, or too large of an item it creates pressure in the chest and pain too. Then, it usually will come back up and out. It's prettty uncomfortable, but not usually for more than a few minutes until it comes back up. Eating too fast can cause me to slime and that's gross, but not usually as painful as it is when I have a pb.

If you follow the bandster rules (tiny bites, chewed to liquid, eating slowly) you shouldn't have issues with this. Even if you're in the all liquid phase you should drink slowly so that small quantities are going through your band at a time.

Speak with your doctor about your pain and he may have suggestions for you.

Best wishes to you newbie! I love my band.

Sue

Vangirl. It sounds like the pain you are experiencing is from the gas they put in you at the time of surgery. It will last for awhile and some people find relief by walking, taking Gas-X strips, using a heating pad (but not on your incisions), and I found drinking peppermint tea helped. My chest hurt when I drank cold beverages - did much better with warm. Until you have restriction, it is pretty hard to overdo it with the liquids (they go right through the band, which is why you are required to be on the liquid diet - to give your body and band time to heal without having to work). Sue is so right about tiny sips - just keep drinking. Good luck to you!! Becky

I found it VERY easy to overdo the liquids at 10 days post op. I had tons of restriction at that stage and couldnt even look at more than half a cup of anything at a time. I would pour myself a mug of Soup, because couldnt believe half of one could fill me so thoroughly and I tried to drink it all. Not everyone has no restriction after surgery. It does sound like you've overdone it a bit but dont be hard on yourself, that is really difficult to recognise when you're so new at this, and you really dont get any warning. Take note of the amount you'd had and try to stop just a bit before that.

You'll get less sensitive to this as time goes on, you'll be able to eat more before it happens and then you start getting fills to manage that amount, and you'll get to know your body much better and start to recognise your signals.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
