Band slipped at goal weight..now what?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am new to this site and it looks like a great place to get some feed back on my issue. I have been banded over 4 years and am at goal weight. Have been at the same weight about 2 years. I am thinking that my band has slipped. I have all of the symptoms pretty much. I couldnt get an appt any sooner than next week so Ill have to wait to know for sure.

My question is for anyone who has gone through slippage or knows about it: What happens if its a really bad slip and they have to remove the band? Are they going to re-band me if I am at goal weight? I am about 140 and 5''8 so my husband thinks I should leave it out if I need surgery. But I am worried about maintaining. The whole point of the band is to CURE obesity. And if there is no band in there I could go back to 250 in a no time Im sure. Anyway, I know this is long. Just looking for some insight. Thanks so much!

My band slipped at goal weight also, and they put in a new one. I was throwing up and had severe pain. The pain was really terrible. Perhaps yours is not so bad and will go back into place. I would suggest another band as we have tried this on our own before. If they have to operate, the replacement is not bad. The surgical assistant asked in the operating room asked if I was the right patient as I did not look like I needed a band. What a nice compliment!! I have since gained back weight and am stuggling. I wish you continued good luck. Be well.

I'm not sure, but I think they have to go in there and see exactly what caused the slip to see if it's repairable or not. If it's not, they will have to remove it and that is that.... you will have to deal with it unfortunately. Perhaps you could convert to a gastric sleeve? You'll just have to discuss all your options when you go for your doctors appt. I understand how you feel, though...I wouldn't have mine removed unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary!! I would definitely have it replaced/repaired.

Best of luck to you!! Let us know how you're doing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
