2 days post op heres my journey so far...

Recommended Posts

Well I was banded on Dec 3rd and all went very well thank god! I was scheduled for 12:50 but didnt get in until 3:00. Just some more time to think. Just what I didnt need. Anyway I am glad it was delayed because it actually got me to relax just laying there. I was banded in N.J. at The Valley Hopsital. From the minute I walked in I was treated like a king. They immediately noticed I was not smiling and they changed gears. My wife was with me and was a great crutch also. Everyone from the receptionist to the O.R. nurse cheered me up and it started to work. I had myself so overworked for no reason. I was greeted in the O.R. by 4 nice looking women and my anestheologist was also a woman. How lucky was I? It was over so quick. I spent about 45 minutes in recovery and then back to my original bed. I spent about a half hour there before going for my upper GI. One bit of advice. You can sip the drink and it works the same. I drank maybe a shot glass worth and that was it. It almost came back up but I got lucky. I was released around 8:00 for my hour and a half ride home which was like hell. I think we hit every bump in the 95 mile ride. I slept great the 1st night without any problems. Yesterday my first day was a little tough. Pain, Pain,Pain is all I can say. My stomach was very tender especially at my port. I took pain meds and rested but also walked laps around the house for the gas.

Today the pain has eased but the gas hasnt. Its been very hard to burp it out and I have been taking gas-x and mylicon. Thats been the worst part of it all, the gas. It gets stuck and its very uncomfortable. I am looking foward to the next few days for this to all get better which I know it will. No one said it would be easy and I signed up for this journey. I have no appetite at all and I force drinks down because I know I have to have them. Its amazing how such small quantities really do fill you up!!

Well its behind me now and I wish everyone else going for surgery the best of luck with surgery and recovery.

Glad to hear from you and I'm glad everything went well. I had a little more pain today, 3 days out but still able to stay on top of it. I know what you mean about the ride home, felt like we hit every bump on the road. Take care.

Congrats Mike! Walk, walk, walk. I felt really nauseous in the 2nd recovery area, but walked around even though I didn't feel like it and it helped so much. I continued to walk and stay as active as I could (only walking) and it helped so much with the gas. Hope you're feeling great soon!

Congrats on getting Banded Mike! Keep up the walking as that will really help those gas feelings go away not to mention that it is just something we need to do anyways.

I am two days post op now as well. Hard to believe it. I am still in Tiajuana but will be heading for the airport in just about 2 hours now. Can't wait to get home. Everything went very well down here. The hospital was amazing, the staff even better, and Dr. Kuri was top notch. There was three others down here for surgery the same day and we all have hung out together along with our emotional supports we all brought. Saara in MN is one of the others here with me and she came out great. It was great meeting someone on the boards here who actually was going to Dr. Kuri for the same day and all. I will be home before you know it and well on my way to a healthier and thinner me. I haven't hardly had any pain so sorry to hear that you have Mike. Just some soreness around the port incission like I think most people will have. Walk walk walk and drink lots of liquids is the key now.

I will talk to you all tomorrow when I am back home. Take care and good luck to those that are heading out tomorrow for their surgeries!!!

Congrats!!!! Mike. I had my surgery December 11th. I was suppose to go it at 7:00 am and I didn't go back for surgery until 9:30. I was in recovery for about an hour. My doc did not require I swallow the chalk before I left. Maybe he is going to do that we I go back for my check up on December 18th. I slept most of the way home (2 hour ride). My throat was really dry. It's a little better today. I've been up since 6:00 am. I've had trouble burping too that I never had in the past. I'm have some pain this morning. I guess this is the gas. I haven't had any nausea yet, but I tood a 40mg amend for nausea before surgery, plus a patch behind my ear and a nausea wrist watch that will last me for 3 days. I'm on Clear Liquids for the next five then on to full liquids. LOL

Can you explain what exactly the gas pains feel like?

My stomache is sore and I have sharp pains when I inhale too deep. Little pain under my shouldblades.. and in the diaphragm area. Wondering if I should force myslef to walk more. I did great walking in the hospital but now it hurts more so I'm not walking as much.

I also had my surgery on Dec 11th, and have little bit of discomfort around my abdomen especially when taking a deep breath.

I've also a little bit of shoulder pain from the gas.

Definitely walking around is the best remedy, even just doing laps in your hallway or around your room. A little movement helps quite a bit.

The written instructions also suggest GasX or Bean-o to help relieve the gas.

I am 5 days post-op and the pain is totally bearable, but I seem to be able to take in less and less everyday, I just can't get myself to take in anything but Water is that normal? I've been doing a lot of walking and my gas pains are pretty much gone by now....How long after surgery will I be actually ok to drink what they ask me to?

thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
