1st FILL-NO RESTRICTION, I THINK-HELP!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Oct 16th-lost 24 lbs so far, Wednesday was my first fill. Pa had me drink a cup of Water to see how it felt. My band is 10cc and he put in 4cc. I am now on liquids until tomorrow, so no food yet. I dont feel any restriction, but I had creamy Tomato Soup yesterday and snuck in 2 small croutons. I kinda felt like something was a little stuck and annoying. Is that the feeling of restriction? I only had 2 small croutons! How is this gonna feel tomorrow at my christmas party when I can have solids again? I'm planning on having chicken. If the croutons felt weird, will I have a problem with the chicken? Also, will I feel full on small amounts of food or is it always gonna be this feeling of something stuck in there? :tongue2:

Hi there i had my 3rd fill yesterday so now have 5.75mls in 10ml band i like u feel no restriction i dont think and i also should be on liquids til tomorro but i was so hungry i ate can anyone tell me why we have to stay on liquids for 2days after a fill and have i done damage by eating? As for crutons im not sure i get the stuck feeling with tiny amounts of certain foods like chicken unless its cold chunks of chicken this band takes a lot of work and constant research and learning i knew it wasnt gona be easy but didnt know it would be so confusing either

I'm in the same boat. I went for my first fill on wednesday with the fillcenters, usa located in austin. The doctor tried 2cc's and it closed me, so she backed it out to 1.5cc, still nothing would go thru, so I left with a 1cc fill, I too was told warm liquids for 48hrs, I made it 24hrs and had 1cup of chili last night for supper. I didn't feel full, this morning I made an omlete, ate most of it, still don't feel full and no restriction. After my surgery I felt restriction because of the swelling. Do you just measure your food and eat only that much? When do you get have that full and satisfied feeling? The Doctor didn't really offer any guidance or advice other than don't drink while you eat, I was rushed in and out so quick I barely remember the 10 to 15 minutes I was with the Doctor. Any ideas??

Here's the analogy I have for restriction. It's like teenagers talking about sex and aren't sure if they've ever had an orgasm.

Once you have it, you'll know.

Take it slow and easy. It takes time to learn the foods you can tolerate.

hi all... like many of you i didn't feel restriction after my initial fills. it take awhile and sometimes you may not feel restricted until 2- weeks after a fill. sux, i know.

also, it's doubtful that you'll feel restricted when the you're only on liquids/mushies. you're surgeon and dietitian can explain in more detail, but remember to follow band rules: well chewed solid Proteins, veggies and carbs. don't drink for at least an hour after eating. you're going to need food to, for lack of a better word, plug up your pouch. it's only when your pouch is full that you'll feel sated and therefore restricted.

from what i can tell from all of your previous posts, many of you seem to be at the beginning of your fill stages. patience, dear friends. you'll hit your sweet spot. just remember band rules and communicate with your surgeon and aftercare team.

good luck everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
