Intense pain in upper back

Recommended Posts

I had lapband surgery in June, 2008, with no complications until yesterday. After eating I felt like something was stuck. I waited & waited but the pain is still there today--almost 24 hours later. It's intense pain in my upper back...any ideas? Have been throwing up also--even liquids.< /p>

Sandy,

I've had this sensation before-about a week after my last fill (banded in April-08) just now feeling restriction. How are you doing, now? What did your Dr. say was the problem?

By intense pain, I mean INTENSE pain with vomiting for +36 hours. Since my surgeon was 3 hrs away, I put off making the drive for a couple of days. When I got there & drank the barium, he ordered emergency surgery. The band had slipped into a vertical position (not too common). I had the choice to repair the band or remove it. I chose removal.

Sandy... Sorry about your ordeal. Do you have any advice or did the doctor have an opinion why the band slipped?

Brad

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
