I heard ( cant remember where ) that you can not dye your hair for 1 year after surgery due to lack of Protein in diet. I have the lap band back in may 2008 and my hair seems fine. So if I want to get some hi-lights.... I should be okay right?

Thanks for the help!

you shouldn't HAVE a lack of Protein in your diet, except for the brief period post op when some of us are on liquids only (ie my doc doesn't allow Protein shakes the 1st week post op) Otherwise most of us report that we're supposed to get in Protein however, even in supplement form. SO lack of protein shouldn't be an issue.

Beyond that, I've never heard that and color my hair regularly

8_2_85v.gif I was banded in May also. I have dyed my hair 3 times so far and no problems. If your not getting enough protien your hair will start to fall out. But that is anyone. It doesn't matter if you dye your hair or not. So have fun with color!

I also have never heard such a thing. But if you are worried about it, try henna. No chemicals, all natural, beautiful color...I recommend the henna sold at Lush.

I was banded in October and have dyed and permed my hair since then. No problems. I did perm to make it look thick again, since I was loosing a little bit of hair. Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
