I think I broke it!

I had LapBand on 6/10/05 and my 1st fill on 7/14/05 . . . My issues is I eat a small amount less, but I have had no negative results, I eat what and have to, and have only lost 10 lbs since the surgery date.

My friend had it a year ago and from day her ability to eat what she wants has been greatly limited plus she gets sick if she eats more than a few bites.

I realize the band is not a fix it all and I have to eat right to help it work, but I feel now that the band for me is not working, I have seen more results by going back the things as I did before the band such as diet pills and laxatives...

My Dr. says it has not slipped but I don't feel like it is working at all...

Please help . . . Should I expect to see results? Should I expect the inability to tolorate certian foods, or the BP -forgot what it is called where food comes back up.

Did I break it??????

Slow down there! :D

You've lost 10 lbs in about a month and a half. That's great! Most diets give similar results, with more work! Now, what you can eat, and how much, and how much fill it takes to make a difference is WAY different for each person. It may take you a few fills to reach a good restriction level where you are losing at a decent pace. And remember, a decent pace is 1 to 2 lbs per week on average, so you are doing great.

See how this fill works for you and whether you are losing weight, and then in few weeks if you aren't, call for another fill. To be honest with you, it kind of sounds like your friend is too tight if she can't eat more than a few bites without getting sick. I had this problem myself, and had just a tiny bit taken out, and am doing much better. :)

Uphill

I have not yet been banded yet, but from what I can tell form reading posts here I doubt that the band can be broken. :D It is more likely in your case that your band has not been adjusted enough to allow for adequate restriction. The amount of fill that is needed depends on the person. For some just the band alone is enough restriction in the beginning to reduce the amount of food a person is able to tolerate. For others it could take 1, 2, 3 or more fills to achieve appropriate level. Hang in there. Watch what you eat so at least you don’t gain any weight. Talk to your Dr about it, let him/her know you are not feeling any restriction and ask when your next fill will be.

Let us know how it goes.

Yes Uphill. I have a work colleague here at work who is already at 6 fills and she still has a bit of weight to go. It is so different for everybody. Hang in there and don't give up on it. It's a process and that takes time. Bear with it. Just think where you'd be in without or where you would be at in another year if you didn't have it.

Thank you to all for you words of support...I will call the Dr. to find out about my next fill, I want more than anything for this to work...I did NOT do the week of liquid diet after the first fill nor did I do the 4 week liquid or soft solid diet after ther surgery so maybe before I call I should actually try to diet and eat less on my on, as well as eat foods that are better for me (of course if I could do that I would not have had the lap band I also joined Curves, so I hope to see better results if I follow a regular diet (or something close to it) and excercise and have another fill in a few months.

Well, the first 6 weeks are more about healing than losing weight... as are the post op diets. When you go in for your fill, you should see if you can have it done under flouro, just to check things out and make sure they are all in place.

:)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
