XXLESQ 0 Posted December 3, 2008 Hi All I have taken up Jiu Jitsu after being banded 12 months ago (and losing 90+ pounds). It involves throws and being thrown. Has anybody had any experience with band issues when pursuing this kind of exercise? It is an awesome workout! Thanks in advance for any input.
OH Juli 15 Posted December 4, 2008 Dude, I had to look up BJJ. Youtube had a cool video. Looks like your band should be safe. I think the biggest fear would be taking a jab in the port, but punching doesn't look a part of it. Congrats on the weight loss.
Texgirly 0 Posted December 5, 2008 I would think someone trying to pass guard could be uncomfortable depending on how they go about it. And if you are in side control on the port side there might some pretty decent pressure there. Now, if you are more into MMA and facing a ground and pound you better tap out - just the idea of someone sitting on my stomach makes me cringe.
thevenusianarts 0 Posted August 12, 2010 i've trained bjj for a year before surgery. i had surgery exactly 8 wks ago today and i want to get back into the gym, have you guys ran into any complications with jiu jitsu, grappling or wrestling? i could just imagine knee-on stomach causing way too much pressure on the port .. let me know please, i can't seem to find any related topics on this matter and i don't want to take the chance if it means i may hurt something
