Hi, Vickie! You are fortunate having the diet and grocery lists!

I was banded in Mexico and that doctor will not be doing my fills because of the distance; so, he has not been as involveed in my post op diet. He and his staff are fantastic, don't take me the wrong way. I did go to a question and answer session after my surgery, but it is difficult to know what to ask when you just have been banded. Each day as I'm recovering, I have more and more questions.Do you know if the diet you are following is published on the internet so I can access it?

Take care. Do't over to things.

Anne

My guy was also banded in Mexico and not permitted any type of food (only clear liquids) for the first three weeks or so after surgery.

Personally, I'd go insane.

Have you connected with a bariatric program local to you? If so maybe ask them if they have a prescribed diet for you to follow?

I was banded on the east coast and I have been provided with a plan from my nutritionist.

Stage 1 - Full Liquid:

fruit juices (dilute 1/2 with water), pre-made yogurt drinks, cow's milk, soy milk, Lactaid milk, Tomato or V8 juice.

hot cereals made very runny - oatmeal, cream of wheat or grits.

Soups, broth, strained cream Soup, Tomato Soup, thicker Soups would have to be put into the blender to make them smooth.

Protein drinks, EAS Advantage, Atkins Advantage, Permalean, nectar, Designer whey, Any whey, Isopure. I drink Isopure.....it comes in a 20 oz bottle, but I feel like I am over stretching my stomach when I drink the entire bottle to get the 40g of Protein.< /p>

Jello, popsicles, pudding - sugar free

yogurt - dannon light and carb countdown

Phase 2 - pureed diet - weeks 3 & 4

consistency of smooth applesauce, baby food

Applesauce, instant mashed potatoes, saltines or oyster crackers, soft scrambled egg or soft boiled egg, low fat cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, sliced cheese, creamy Peanut Butter, mashed cooked Beans or refried Beans, creamy tuna (use chuck light in water) or egg salad.

During stage 2, eat only 1/4 cup at a time, every 4 hours. And no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating.

Phase 3 - after week 4

cut up foods into small pieces and use good judgement.

I hope this helps!

I still don't know how many ounces of liquid to take in at a time during the first phase. I think I over did it last night with drinking 10 oz of hot cider and then about 30 minutes later, 6 spoons of cream Soup. I was not comfortable!

Hey Anne,

You need to follow what your doctor said, everyone is different and have different medical issues. I was told liquids for two weeks until post op appt. You want to make sure you heal properly to reduce complications later on. Trust me I UNDERSTAND about the liquids...but I would rather suck it up now...and take my time...and besides I look at it as...

.....we have eaten food for over 30 years a couple weeks without it won't hurt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
