I was banded in June '07. I've been doing fine since then, except that last week I got what I thought was a stomach bug (not so sure about that now.) I'm having pain in my stomach and anytime I eat I get nauseous. My mom is convinced I either over-ate at Thanksgiving and hurt my band or I'm pregnant. Ignoring the pregnant thing for a minute, has anyone else had this type of problem this far out from banding. I'm fine as long as I don't eat. Just tired. If I eat anything or drink anything other than Water, I feel horrible.

(I'm ruling out the pregnant thing because that would only explain the nausea, not the pain in my stomach.)

I had this happen before on two occasions - same food. It happened over the summer (6 months or more post banding), both were instances where we grilled out and I ate some corn on the cob (this was the only food I don't normally eat).

I didn't pb/slime or anything but was uncomfortable after dinner and thought maybe I overate. For several days thereafter I was uncomfortable and nauseous. After being uncomfortable for a couple of days, I ended up going back to liquids/soups for a while and was OK again. The second time . . . I realized it was the same problem the next day and immediately went on liquids/soups. I don't eat corn on the cob anymore. It almost seem like as if it doesn't quite get stuck but maybe the harder pieces of the kernals don't go through my pouch.

I agree with Jack on calling the doctor . . . that is always the safest route. My case was specific to me, but there are a number of issues that can make you feel this way.

In the mean time, I would suggest going back to liquids while you are having pain. At least with liquids, you can do no additional harm . . . and if it is a minor issue your stomach can focus on getting better rather than digestion. Also if you do end up vomiting, liquid might pass easier through your band than anything more solid.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
