December 19th! How do I prepare?

Recommended Posts

:eek:I am approved and so now I am getting excited. I start Clear Liquids on the 12th and stay on them until one week after surgery. Is there anything I should have on hand to eat? Any helpful hints. Thanks.

Well I want to say congrats you are on your way. Just remember to follow ALL the instructions the docs give you to a tee.

I bought lots and lots of Jello, sugar free Crystal light (although I didn't like that at all); Any Fat free broths I could find. then when you trasnition to full, I used Protein shakes and yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce, blended and pureed I stuck what ever I made for my family minus the carb foods in a blender with ff gravys, tuna, chicken w/ff mayo. shrimp with ff mayo.stuff like that. just try to drink as much H2O as possible and take your Vitamins religiously! Stay focused. the first week you may worry alot about what you did but when you heal you will feel better about your decision and start to look great too. It is all good!!! If you want to chat PM me and I will be of assistance as much as possible

Take Care and good luck with the surgery and recovery!!!

Currently my husband and I are BOTH on the liquid diet. I would be sure to get the following:

-Applejuice

-Crystal light (or sugar free beverages)

-Flintstones Vitamins

-Instant (powdered or granuled) chicken and beef stock

-Sugar Free Jell-o cups/boxes

-Gatorade

The thing we have found is that the hospital loads you up on all this sugary stuff like apple juice and sugary Jell-o right after surgery. Which is great for about a minute, then all those carbs start to make you feel sick. So we decided to get just a FEW sugary things, and mostly sugar free stuff is the best way to go. You DO need calories, but be sure to not have so much sugar on the clear liquid diet. It's really easy to do and your liver won't shrink properly if you have too many carbs. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
