Hi Ginger!

Congratulations on your surgery...welcome to Bandlandia!!

The pain you're feeling is related to the surgery, the gas they used to inflate your abdomen. It will pass, but it sometimes takes a while. Movement can really help, and burp as much as you can. :o

I don't know what a binder is--so I don't know how long you should keep it on. If it's something to do with your incisions, I'll share my doctor's post-op instructions were to let them be exposed to air as soon as possible. Even band-aids were not really recommended.

Best wishes for a continued quick recuperation!

Hi there...sorry to hear your hurting.

The nurse practicioner at the surgeon's office warned me about the gas pains. She said that I have to get my head lower than my butt for the diaphram to push the gas out. She said to stretch way over and try and touch my toes (without stretching the incisions). She also mentioned Imay want to lean on something if I'm still a bit off balance.

I'm having surgery next week, so I have no first hand knowledge if it works.

Best of luck, and I hope you feel better soon!

Megan

I had terrible, terrible pain in my shoulder for about a week, even radiating down around the outside of my left breast. It was so bad that the pain actually woke me up at least a couple of times in the middle of my sleep. The only thing that worked for me (until it naturally disappeared) was to take a couple mega doses of Tylenol. It was the only thing that dulled the pain. Of course being only a week or two out of surgery, you'll want to cut the pills into tiny bits before swallowing.

Hope that helps!

I found that a heating pad or hot water bottle helped ease the pain somewhat. I only had maybe 3-4 days of pain- I would take a little walk every 1/2 hour or so and do long slow stretches up, then down. Hot showers too, once you are able.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
