Slow healing incision

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I was banded Oct. 21st and am doing relatively well. I have only lost 20 lbs. but I am staying positive. However; the incision where my port is still has not healed. The other incisions have all healed nicely without any problems. The port incision is still "yucky". It is draining and there is a hole. I go to the doctor tomorrow, but I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this?:smile2:

I think it's good you are going to the docs. Sound like you might have a teeny infection. I'm 13 days post op and I never had draining and it's already healed. Good luck and please keep us posted.

How interesting! I was banded on October 22 and I have/had the same issue as you! At my 2-week post-op appointment the nurse practitioner mentioned that it is not uncommon for a stitch to work its way through to the outside of the skin, but I was advised not to worry about it. Well, that exact thing happened a week later and it left a little hole in the incision that became infected - really red, oozy and angry looking. I was given a 7-day prescription for antibiotics and told not to use Neosporin or any other type of topical ointment. The incision is finally starting to heal. I'm glad I saw the doctor when I did or else I fear it would still be infected, sensitive and yuck.

I was banded Oct. 7th and my port incision just finished healing within the last week or so. I had my first fill on Nov. 20th and still had a scab on the port incision. I had it looked at a couple times and was told it was okay. I had to look for it leaking a green substance that smelled bad, if that was the case I was to come in as it could be infected. It just took me longer to heal, I kept pulling the scab away from the skin and it had to reform all the time. I would have the doctor look at it though. Are you by chance diabetic? I am so that could be the reason why it took me longer to heal than most.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
