Listening to my Body

Recommended Posts

I titled this thread "Listening to my Body" because that is exactly what I realized I have to do since surgery. This past weekend I experienced my first case of :tt2:heartburn, indegestion, acid reflux.:cool2: So many different names you use, but they all mean the samething. At first I had no idea what it was, but after a day of feeling that way I realized and than again it was only after a dear friend of mines came to the house and I told her I was feeling she said it sound like... Since I've never had:frown: heart burn, indegestion, acid reflux:frown: I had know idea what I was feeling.

The feeling. My throat and chest was hurting. Everytime I swolled it just hurt. First I thought I was had a cold I was developing. Don't laugh, it was my throat and chest hurting why not. But didn't have any of the other sysmptoms. Nothing I ate was going down right, I just didn't feel good.

The cauase.... Wendesday after my last minute shopping, rushing around picking up this person and that person and knowing I had to go home and start preparing my Thanksgiving meal. I made a very drastic mistake. I'm almost ashmed to say this, but we are here to share and that is what I'm doing. I went and picked up fast food for dinner for my house, so I would not have to cook. I already had guest in that evening. Of all things I got.. Popeyes Spicy chicken. 1st mistake. When I arrived home I rushed and ate a pcs of chicken 2nd mistake. and than jumped right up and started cooking 3d mistake. So not only did I buy the wrong food I ate the crap too fast without chewing it up properly and than jumped right up and started working. Needless to say why I ended up with :sad:HEARTBURN, INDEGESTION, ACID REFLUX:frown:. Whatever you want to call it..

Lesson Learned... Don't eat crappy food, for any reason at all, no matter what. Take my time and chew whatever I eat and for goodness sake Listen to my Body:cursing::cursing::cursing:B).

I know exactly what you mean. I knew what heartburn felt like, so I knew exactly what it was. I fried pork chops for my family. I decided I just didn't want another piece of baked salmon, so I ate a pork chop. I tried to take my time chewing, but that was hard to do. Also, the greasiness of it really made me feel awful. I won't be in any hurry to eat something fried like that again. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

I know what you mean and I too learned the hard way. My problem was eating and drinking and then laying right down. no digestion ; just food stuck in my throat and on my chest. all i could do was bring it back up and out!!! :cursing:

I guess we are all learning that. Its a good thing that it did not get stuck. I hate that feeling. I sometimes just don't chew my food as I should. I was eating some chicken, and I just thought I could eat like i use to. Not only was I so full that I felt I would bust, I had chicken stuck in my throat. I was the worst feeling. I was in a panic, but I got through it. I am learning. I guess we all are.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
